Re: The Nuvi 255W - Part 3

I'm serious thinking of resetting it to factory default...but just curious what this resetting actually does. Bro Ace, if you're referring the "Clear All User Data" procedure, it'll reset to factory settings just like when you first bought it. Current.GPX file will also be reset, so Favorites, etc....

Re: The Nuvi 255W - Part 3

Bro Dvpro, how to clean it if I can't access the directory? Bro Ace, try cleaning the drive itself. But if the machine itself is already infected, then I think you should clean it from a different PC (preferably installed with a good and updated AV software). The other thing that I'm curious about ...

Re: The Nuvi 255W - Part 3

4. Over the weekend, plug the nuvi to my PC to try to extract the log files....found that I cannot access it. On the laptop, it can show the Nuvi directory and the SD card. It just cannot see the Nuvi directory. It appears that your Nuvi drives are infected with a virus. Best is to disinfect from a...

Re: For First-Time Visitors (The FAQ of all FAQs!) UPDATED 2

Other than the preloaded maps which are locked to the particular Nuvi they're installed in, all folders and files should be interchangeable but I'd advise to update/rewrite to latest firmware after replacing the files. Also make sure that both Nuvis are of the same localization/HWID.

Re: For First-Time Visitors (The FAQ of all FAQs!) UPDATED 2

Ok I have 2 friends both have Garmin nuvi 1460, both were bough in different time of the last year 2009. The firmware was a bit messed up so i took 1 of them and i exchanged the map with the 1 you guys provided" that fits to any gps". unfortunatly that made the problem even worse, so the other nuvi...

Re: GPSmap 78 series

According to this article it uses STMicroelectronics Cartesio chip which is used in the Garmin Oregon and Dakota: http://www.gpsfix.net/gpsmap78-internal-2/

I believe earlier 60CSx/76CSx uses SiRfStarIII chipset, but newer units use MTK chipsets.

Re: Noob question about GPS (Garmin 1350)

Hi Bro BanBan, all of the above maps including MSM NT v5.xx can coexist in Nuvi, so no need to remove any map. However as they share similar map region, only 1 map product should be enabled at any one time. Am I correct to assume that the above maps files are gmapprom.img and gmapprom1.img? To remov...

Re: Noob question about GPS (Garmin 1350)

To cut a long story short, I'd advise you to use MSM NT v5.xx map as your main navigation map, and if you happen to be at an area where there is no mapped roads, then try switching to City Navigator map. BTW, current version of MSM NT v5.xx does not include custom/brand icons, but future releases wo...

Re: GPSmap 78 series

I had another long distance run consisting of 7hrs continuous tracking few days ago. My 78s was set to auto achieve daily. This time, the tracks are still in the gpx folder but there are many of them with each file containing 3000 points. So I need to go combine all the tracks into one again. I fin...

Re: Noob question about GPS (Garmin 1350)

@breaker84, for your Nuvi1xxx series, GMAPSUPP.IMG should be placed in \Map folder, not \Garmin folder or \.System folder. If \Map folder is not present in Nuvi, create a New Folder at the root directory (ie. highest level, same level as \Garmin , \Text , \Vehicle , \Voice folders) and label it as M...
