Its like in a stanby mode with the Garmin word in the midddle and a picture at the bottom showing the GPS connected to the PC.

Is the PC now charging the GPS??
CHEERS!!

Yes it is charging.

In normal mode, You can press and hold "battery" icon for 8 seconds and get into the engineering menu. At the first screen, you will see your true battery capacity left in percentage.

i am using a 5v 1000ma charger, which came with my creative zen stone player, works just fine, no frying/ burning.... and it charges to full much much faster than using the pc/laptops usb ports.

However everytime i plug it in it will be in data mode and refused to be offed. So what i did was to enter the engineering mode first by pressing an holding on the battery icon for 8 secs, then plug in the charger. After that i turn the whole unit off and let it resume charging. Works like a charm.

:-)

I do use my Motorola phone charger which has a rating of 750mA. And I normally charge it for about 6-7hrs. It works fine though it's always in the data-transfer mode.

Wondering if the original Garmin AC charger enables navigation mode while it's charging?

just bought a home Adaptor Charger for my Nuvi 200w.
I have 2 unit of Nuvi 200w, one is Taiwan version and other one is USA version.
Taiwan version is no problem for Charging but
USA version seem unable to charge because when I plug in the charger,
the screen will show as Data Mode. Try slide the power key to turn off it,
But failed to turn off, must unplug the charger.
After Thinking a while, I think may be It has some method to charge the USA version 200w.
Yes, I get the method to charge my USA version 200w.
Before plug in the Charger, turn on the 200w.
On the Right Top has one Battery Icon, Press and hold "battery Icon" for 8 seconds and go into Service Menu.
And now I can plug in my home adapter charger, once plug in can hear "dui" sound and at the Service menu screen,
can see the Battery on "Charging". Press Exit button to out service menu.
On the main screen, the Battery lcon will be hidden when the battery is charging.
While it is charging, I still can use it. :D

 Genius! I tried it with my Motorola charger and it works! But my battery icon in the main screen isn't hidden. It is just like as though I used my car charger showing charging status.
Anyway, :tq: bro.

Not too sure if this bitsy of info will be of any help. There are 2 types of min USB - wired internally. Co users face this problems though CO cannot be charged via USB port - it just put the Co into different mode of operation.

I suspect the same rule applies here for Navi. There is a thread somewhere that talks about it.

I borrowed a made-in-china charger from a colleague, which is supposed to charge Motorola phones.
However, when I have it plugged in, the nuvi 200w will not go past the boot-up screen (I have custom wallpaper set).

It just powers off immediately after the custom wallpaper is shown.

I have also tried going into the engineering mode and then plugging in the charger. The nuvi 200w will still power itself off.

Kinda weird?

Bro XCool, please check the current rating of the charger. Original Nuvi chargers are rated at 5V 1A !!!
