Laos and Vietnam Routeable (including some topo features)

#1 Post by rchan » Wed Nov 07, 2007 3:41 pm

While planning a trip to this area during Dec 07/Jan 08 but found little or no free (auto routing) maps available at all, hence I proceeded to undertake a project to create my own maps from publicly available data sources. I have most likely spent hundreds of hours firstly extracting the data and then fine tuning and cleaning up the road data to get it to a stage where it could compile correctly.

The roads on these maps are not very detailed and only available at highway level only. However, they are auto routing (if it sometimes "straightlines", then break up the trip into smaller chunks and it should work) and will aid in estimating distances between main centres for trip planning. No detailed roads available at city/town level.

These maps are made up of individual map tiles :-

Roads and Highways
Water features
Vegetation
Contour lines (2 files)
Land and Geographical features

Just turn on or off the relevant map tiles on your GPS whenever you like to speed up screen refreshes (although I have no problems on a 60 CSX model).

I accept no responsibility for any damages incurred as a result of using these maps.

Use them at your own risk or purchase commercial ones (if you can find any)!

If these maps have been or are useful to you, I would be glad to hear about it.

FINALLY

THESE MAPS MUST NOT BE SOLD !!!

Enjoy.

Great! I'll be in Vietnam for 3 weeks too myself. I'll be happy to update the maps when I get home in late Jan.

Still new at this. Tracks include Visits to Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh, and Kelantan, Malaysia. Don't know how to separate and edit tracks yet.

Note:-
My Son waypoint - the full circle from that waypoint is only assessible by foot
Hoi An - The town centre is only assessible by foot/bicycle/motobike only

Pls ignore the straight lines. Could not get a sta. lockon at certain times

Dear Sir

Thank you for the map. I have downloaded it and it is very helpful although I have to try it out next trip I am there.

Meanwhile, may I contribute to you the track (file attached herewith) I have collected last year when I visited Vietnam covering the following areas by car:

**HCMC airport to Can Tho which is about 170km
**Can Tho and areas around
**Binh Thuy areas

(I will see if I can dig out the tracks to Ha Thien, Chau Duc areas somewhere.........and if I can find them, I will mail them here)

Regards

Looking for Vietnam map

#9 Post by Spiff » Fri Apr 18, 2008 2:42 am

Hi, I am from Spain and next summer I will spend my vacation travelling to Vietnam and Cambodia.

I have found a very detailed Cambodia map that even covers Angkor and all the temples:
http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com/maplis ... category=2

But I still need a good Vietnam map, I may rent a motorbike in some places (not in Saigon or Hanoi, of course), and I would like to have a good map in my Garmin, Can anybody point me out where to get it.
