Bundled MapKing 2007 doesn't support Malsingmaps?

#1 Post by jcteh » Wed Sep 05, 2007 11:29 am

I've recently installed MapKing 2007 that came bundled with my HP iPaq 6965 and registered a free map that came with it (Malaysia_PPC_Eng.m7a). I've also downloaded malsingmaps (MalsingSG.g10 and renamed it to MalsingSG.m7a).

However, when I tried to switch map to MalsingSG.m7a, the system ask for the s/n and stated that trial period will expire in 3 days, unless I register. By clicking the "trial" button, I was able to use the map with no problem.

I've emailed Mapking (support@mapasia.com did not reply dispite numerous emails sent, so sent to support@mapking.com.sg) and they replied:

"The version that you are holding on to is a bundle version which do not support malsing maps. Only the retail version support malsing maps"

Any of you face similar problems?

Thanks.
JC

Yes, this was announced in mapking site:
http://www.mapking.com/AD/BetaMapKingSi ... laysia.htm

Although it is said HP iPAQ 6965 bundle is under discussed, guess it will be difficult to handle the differences in license key.

Does that mean devices such as Holux GPSmile 53Clife, DAUF, Shinco which bundle Mapking CE software will not be able to use Malsing Makping maps?

Why not i answer this. for my understanding the malsing maps in the Holux, Dauf, Shinco are specially converted by Mapking company themselves so you can just download from here and place in in th device like the PPC version. But have to wait for Mapking company or EastGear company to release the converted versions for this devices.

It appears from the above that your bundled Mapking 2007 license is for Malaysia, but you tried to use the Malsingmaps for Singapore.

Note that http://www.mapking.com/AD/BetaMapKingSi ... laysia.htm says "These alternate maps are provided free of charge to registered RETAIL customers of the corresponding original MapAsia versions.".

Hence, have you tried renaming our malsingmaps MalsingMY.g10 to MalsingMY.m7a and using it on your Mapking 2007, jcteh? Does that work? :-k

I've tried both Malsing WMal.m7a and Malsing EMal.m7a. Both didn't work.
