Laos Routable .......

#1 Post by rotweiler » Tue Oct 09, 2007 3:26 am

A routable map of Laos.

This map covers the entire nation of Laos. It provides accurate detail and many point of interest for the Cities of LOUANG PRABANG and VIENTIANE; the main route between LOUANG PRABANG and VIENTIANE (Highway 13 / A12), as well as connection to the Thailand highway system south of VIENTIANE. Much of the remainder of the map - especially the interior and South of Laos - is from public sources and while corrected to the extent possible, it not considered navigation ready. POIs were largely created from paper maps so feedback with corrections/enhancements are greatly appreciated.

PLEASE read my comments regarding contributions from users posted in the Members Maps - Cambodia section....

If a mod could please post a link to that message here, it might be even more useful...

Hi Rotweiler,

Thanks for doing this. I have tried to create map of this area too but it's still WIP. Furthermore I'm unsure of the accuracy of the source data.

However, here is a small section with major highway, boundary, rivers and some POIs.

I must admit that the road from Vientiane to Luang Prabang and the handful of POIs is actually sourced from a map on Mapcenter. I then added in the other geographical features and also added in other roads and more POIs in Luang Prabang by hand using a travel guide book as a reference!

Feel free to incorporate or use these elements in your map. I am now maybe 60% complete on a more comprehensive topo map of Laos and Vietnam.

If anyone is interested in these, let me know and I'll make that available when ready.

Thanks
rc

Hello,rchan
How 'd I incorporate your *.mp file into rotweiler's routable Lao map for mapsource. I thought normally added waypoint or poi 'd be in .gdb or .gpx

Thanks

For as far as I know, the .mp file mentioned in the message has been incorporated in the Rotweiler map so there is no need to add it.

Yes, that is correct.

If you require an autorouting map that connects Laos and Vietnam - ie show land crossings between the two countries, you could download this map

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3202

Otherwise, Rotweiler's maps have slightly more accurate roads.

I'll be updating my maps soon - I have thousands of kms of tracklogs to work through.

Hi Rchan
I have done a motorcycle trip from Spore to Laos on Jan2008. I have log 1sec off-road track from Luangnamtha to Muangsing, Xiengkok, Boten, China Border, Udomxai, Nong Khiaw, Vieng Kham, Pak Xeng, Luang Prabang, Phonsavan, Vang Vieng, Vientiane, Lak Sao, Nam Phao, Pakse, Champasak-Wat Pho and Chong Mek. I have also mark all the Petrol Kiosk POI from North to South for the benefit of the future biker adventurer. I notice the route differs a lot in the North after Luangnamtha. Let me know if you want this tracks and POI.
