Hi bernGPS,

I'm doing this for a scientist friend who is currently in Sabah studying hydrochemistry of small islands. He asked for my assistance to draw the topo maps.

I haven't been to this island, have you?

Bro Topoguy,

Went to Sipadan 3 times back in the days when you could stay on the Island.
Now you have to stay in Mabul or Pulau Sipadan Resort's other place in the
middle of the sea (atoll - can't remember name at the moment) and boat in
for day trips. Have to pay National park fees some more. Bit hectic for my style
of diving. Boat in, do 3 dives and boat out. I prefer to do leisurely beach dives at my own timing. Nonethe les beautiful place.

Bart

Just a thought.... it would be interesting if we could do a marine chart of the reef surrounding Sipadan. Big problem is where to get bathymetric (depth) data.

oh, well. it is good to be ambitious. :(

Yeap been there once but didnt go diving though. Just walked around the island and listen to a briefing during the days when people still can stay on the Island.

Hey, I am wondering if your scientist friend is kind enough to pass on some tracks for me to do the calibration of tropicalfruitz's GE trace of the island. The three islands are already in the latest Sabah map but they are not calibrated. Hopefully I can get hold of some. Any chance? :-k

Hello bernGPS,

My friend will be going to Sipadan after Raya (>middle October). I will ask him to help.

hmmm... the latest Sabah map has nice outline of the reef. any idea where to get bathymetric data for this island? it would be nice to do a combined topo+marine chart for this island.

The data is available at the RMN or Marine department but how to get the data?

Yes, but not sure how you could (if possible) extract the data.
