MSM Junction View & Lane Info using our Garmin compiler

Apologies for the prolonged absence of some of us from the forums, but we have been busy in the background studying and testing the Garmin compiler. There are many things we have managed push out of the compiler but this post is to share a bit on our development of JCV.

A bit of explanation.

What I am referring to here is our weekly cgpsmapper release maps. I am not referring to the MSM NT map compiled by Garmin quarterly. Our cgpsmapper release will be replaced in the near future by MSM NT map compiled by MSM. This is to share some of the results after dabbling with the official compiler.

At the moment we don't intend to supplant the JCV images being done by Garmin. We have been supplying raw JCV images to Garmin for them to turn them into nice graphical illustrations. The examples JCV that we are showing here are real images with some minor photoshopping. These images are pending process by Garmin for Q3 for Garmin compiled NT.

Our images work in layers so we can turn on and off whichever layer we wish. We can have left arrows displayed when we route left or have right arrows displayed if we route right. Ditto for signages. Or we can open all. And we now have working Lane Info's. So if you wish your kampungs to have Junction Views .. then you can email the images to adil.othman@gmail.com  We are now only limited by the number of hands who want to photoshop the hundreds of images we have harvested todate. Then it is the process of inserting such links into the map data. Ditto for Lane Info. There's a whole nation to add LaneInfo's for and we will do all in stages. If you want specific areas to have Lane Info's instead of waiting, then give us a holler and we may give your area priority.

The images shown are screencaptured from Nuvi 1460. The behaviour of the JCV is that it will begin to pop-up at 400m from the junction.

Cheers!

Question: should the signages be bigger or just nice as it is? The examples are using 8.5. By default Garmin uses 9.9. We can make it bigger and cover the sky if we want to. What do you think?

The standards are still "open" for colors : if we want green signboard with blue boxes or yellow boxes or brown boxes. We can add icons for the signages (clip-art like museum, attractions, lighthouse). Share your views ..

Am I correct to say that on a localized unit that has both MSM NT and Garmin NT maps, I can disable Garmin NT and just leave MSM NT map and have JCV available during routing :-k

We're still someways off that because we are not tagging the Garmin JCV images on our map data. This is something that needs to be discussed further.

The ones that we do ourselves (such the ones shown here) are not locked and would be viewable by any Nuvi which are capable of displaying JCVs - not limited to just localised units.

End of the day it is dependent on what users want and we will follow suit. On one end we have pretty JCVs with quarterly map update from Garmin and on the other, we have self-produced JCVs with more uptodate map data. It's a toss up really. For Singapore users, this point is moot because most of the major junctions are already covered and map data has little changes between quarterly releases. Different story for MY users.

For sure LaneInfo is something we will push for vigorously. For self-produced JCV we will wait and see. Currently, whatever we have time to process we will add it in.

Wow, thanks for the clarification.

Patiently waiting for the day when MSM NT runs its own JCV and Lane Assist =P~

This good news indeed. I wait eargerly for its launch.

I wish that POIs such as speed traps, speed cameras, tol boths can be incorperated inside this map.
