MTK vs SiRF Star III Chipset

#1 Post by jcchua » Fri Aug 17, 2007 10:27 pm

Recently in the GPSr market we could find MTK and SiRF Start III Chipset. Anyone have any opinion about these product? I understand SiRF is from US and MTK is a design and produce in Taiwan. Many are saying SiRF is better but those have testing MTK chip and satisfy with the result. MTK is cheaper and the batt last longer.

Yes, some folks did some comments in the old forum. I just tried to search the old forum on "MTK" and came out with nothing

Anyway, whateve little I remembered.. here it is... some said the MTK chipsets are more sensitive and are cheaper to put into a GPS unit. Some of the receivers with MTK chipsets (I forgot what models...as I don't use PDA) can acquire 5 logs per second !!! Wow !!!

Maybe someone else who is more experienced here can help you out... or you may have to google and I am sure there are papers comparing the 2 ....

enjoy ya ?
Look on the bright side ya? :muak:

Nowaday there are many new chipsets for GPSr . All are good. But it depend on your application. If you only going to run mapking, tom tom etc and you also to ignore Garmin Navigating application, you should get the MTK chipset type of GPSr. Then you will miss out the latest Garmin Mobile XT navigation software.
For me I only considered Garmin 10x because I can run all the GPS application software in the market. Mean time I was using GMXT and nhGPS for my activities.
My advice is buy Garmin 10x and you will no regret in the future.

What PDA are you using?
To convert maps for nhGPS. You need maprdit, mjp converter which you can download from http://www.nhGPS.com. Or you can by scan maps & save in jpg format. For Europe & USA that are more easy just download within nhgps when your phone was connected to your PC.
You can PM me for further detail.
