Other Than Garmin what other brand is good?

#1 Post by jcchua » Wed Aug 22, 2007 1:35 pm

Almost everyone in this forum is talking about garmin.
Just wonder are there any room for other good quality products in Malaysia?

actually i don't care about the brand, as long as i can get detailed/wide malaysian coverage/frequently updated/free maps/good support i'm fine. if others can provide all these then welcome :D
ask not (just) what malsingmaps can do for you

Papago & Mapking is on same format. Although I'm not sure on the G10 version of ppago which should be similar to mapking, then it is still mapking map what!

Actualy there are 2 more softwares that can convert the maps here if I'm not mistaken i.e smartcom for symbian & also navitel..y can check further from the wiki

As mentioned, Whatever software if can open the maps here will do...just like the papago that u hv..Mapking-lah tu..

How much you bought that? :$$:

Papago, mapking , imap are maction lah.

Just wonder why so many people using garmin when the above software is more userfriendly.
and somemore Garmin is so expensive. Maybe people just go for the brand since Garmin is the top in the market?

I tried google map in my 3G smart phone + Globalsat 359 and also Holux recently. I think eventually google will be the Tai Ko. see their progress in google earth and so on.

Google will have to find a good regularly updated GPS map supplier (hence have routing features) for this region especially Malaysia.

Unfortunately the commercial map supplier in Malaysia are slow in making their maps GPS routing capable. Those that have done so like GeoInfo for Mapking Malaysia, cannot compete with our update rates and quality in areas our members frequent and contribute from.

Perhaps Google should be talking to our mappers. Hehe.

I'd say there is. If they provide compilers for free (or cheaply) for our mappers and others to create the maps, that is. Garmin is about the only GPS product that have free (see http://www.mapcenter2.com) and half-way affordable shareware compilers to create maps.
The world is MyMaps!

Tom Tom is popular in UK and its rated quite well in some (car, gadget) magazine reviews. No experience using it though. Might be worth checking it out?
