G'day All,

I have a fair bit of Penisular Malaysia topo mapping in MRSO (Malayan Rectified Skew Orthomorphic)/Kertau. I'm keen to convert the co-ordinates into WGS-84 space so that it may be added to malsing maps.

Does anyone have any formulae for converting MRSO co-ordinates to WGS-84?

I've tried the US DMA/NIMA conversions and they don't map properly.

There was a thread on this in the old forum, but it didn't get around to the parameters.

Hi,

What software are you using to do the conversion? There are a few free software around that has the MRSO-WGS84 param already in. Just need to select them.

Nothing at the moment - I was going to write something to do it. (Not that I am that good at it ;) )

Thanks - I wasn't aware of any free software which had MRSO/Kertau. I'd be grateful for any information on these.

Do they they deal with the gravity issues for heights to give accurate height conversions? Even if not, it'd be an awful lot better than nothing.

I hope I might be able to make some small contribution to this great venture.

Malsingmaps is a fantastic achievement - I don't know how well appreciated it is, but it deserves every praise.

The coverage is exceptionally good for streets - I doubt there are any commercial products that would even match it.

Most humbling.

There is a document here here that explains about the gravity issues in Malaysia from the Survey and Mapping Department

One such free program is PCTrans. You can google it. If you still need the conversion parameters, do PM me.

Thanks! The 2002 NIMA version of Kertau looks promising. But it only seems to deal with geographicals and versions of UTM, not skew projections like the RSO. Ah well, you can't have everything.

There are some parameters at this web page. They appear to be FROM WGS84 TO MRT/Kertau.

They also talk about where you might be able to get some further transformation parameters, and state that WGS84 to RSO may be a multi-step process involving lots of pain! :(

Hi Paul,

Also please be advised that for the long run (if not mistaken) Malaysia would be using more of GDM2000 rather than MRSO.
