Please consider allowing Patch Function Post at MSM.

#1 Post by moeyHC » Fri Jun 19, 2009 10:09 am

There is a post on patch for JCV unit that was quickly deleted by the mod this morning. I would like to request the Admin here to reconsider this point of view... I was trying to post a reply when the thread was removed... remember I have posting problem?

If we can discuss the patch for 1 sec Track Log for the Nuvi 200 I don't see why this cannot be done. It is a Patch not a Crack or re-engineering the firmware. Hope this is allowed.... [-o<

Garmin started it.. with the new maps locked to 'Localized' sets while we already paid for a JCV set from other region. They should have warn us about the region JCV when or before the product is launched. Locking it after their customers bought the product is Unethical.

If you try compare Local Price and US/Taiwan price, sure US/taiwan set more cheaper than Local price.

Everyone will buy US/Taiwan set because its cheap, then local garmin don't need to find eat anymore, all people will support US/Taiwan set.

If share firmware, all of you success, and all people also will support US/Taiwan set then patch it, Local Garmin also don't need find eat anymore.

About sharing patch for 1-sec tracklogs, you should understand that not many people "prefer" 1-sec tracklog compared to JCV.

Sorry, this is different.
If we allow discussion of this (with distribution of patched firmware in forum), you can expect that there will be no JCV incorporated into our map, and you guys forever stuck with only TA map + JCV.

This forum existed or started due to compiling of Garmin map using a THIRD PARTY compiler.

Sure, now that it has gained Garmin recognition, so have to curry favour Garmin and stop all discussion that Garmin feel it’s a threat to their local sales.

Let’s hope the admin can shift their view to its members benefit and not every time the commercial entity Garmin advantage.

I am sure the local units will not be able to sell without MSM maps, s-c-r-e-w hem if they want to take away jcv from MSM maps.

Bro adrianyujs,

I don't share your views. Do you mean that manpower in Taiwan cost less than Malaysia? If they can do it in Taiwan so cheaply why can't they do the same here, especially with MSM giving them all the assistance.. We are free labor, remember this always. We have gone through this with other members a few weeks back in the Vendor's Corner (HERE). Please search the pages to find it....

Thanks for your views....cheers

Hi GPSbay,

We're not concerned about local units vs parallel units sales as we do not do sales here at Malsingmaps. We're just concerned about our maps which currently has an advantage of being incorporated with JCV and LA. This is for the benefit of our members.
Mappers wanted. Read this to get started. Payment = Recognition = Priceless.
We don't just build maps. We build relationships.

What I can say is, without MSM, Singapore's GPS market is likely to be monopolize by MapKing while our bros in Malaysia will continue to be lost even with a GPS...

Hi Jim,

We have not lost sight of our vision which is to provide free maps for this region for our members. If you look at the pricelist of parallel importers they have a much higher price than authorized channels for some models, while being at par price with other models.
