Perak Mappers Needed Urgently - Pemeta Perak Dikehendaki

#1 Post by Noah » Fri Oct 23, 2009 9:58 pm

VolunteersNeeded.png
Dear Perakians,

The Perak Map is currently lacking a full time mapper. As a result of this, foreign mappers have to be brought in from Selangor, Kedah and Pahang to help build it. The quality of the maps when mapped by a foreign mapper is never on par compared to if they were mapped by Perakians. If you live in any of the major cities in Perak listed below, please volunteer to be a Perak Mapper.

Thank you,

Does Behrang Ulu come under Proton City or Behrang? It is about 3 km from PC but 12 km from Behrang

Volunteering to be a Mapper has a meaningful, positive impact on our community. But did you know that it can have many benefits for you too? Here are some reasons to volunteer:

A. To Learn A New Skill

Volunteering is the perfect vehicle to discover something you are really good at and develop a new skill. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” It is never too late to learn new skills and no reason why you should stop adding to your knowledge just because you are in employment or have finished your education. Planning and implementing a tracklogging session of unmapped areas can develop goal setting and planning as well as budgeting skills to cover as many drivable roads with the lowest time and fuel cost as possible. Once you are experienced enough, supervising and training other volunteer mappers helps to develop leadership skills. These are examples of skills that can enhance a career but you don’t have to develop skills with the intention of facilitating your career. When you join this elite community of mappers you will meet people from a diverse skillset and experience of doing the same things differently. We have mappers who are bankers, labourers, lift engineers, teachers, lawyers, policeman, programmers, surgeons, pharmacists and househusbands. All of them with their own strength and weaknesses, prejudices, cultural norms, language barriers and idiosyncracies, but with the same goal of making better maps.

B. Its an Adventure

Going out tracklogging and mapping your discoveries is an exhillarating adventure. You will feel the sense of pride and achievement Christopher Columbus felt when he first discovered a new land 1000 miles across the continent. What better way to document your adventure in discovering your own town so other explorers after you will not lose their direction.

It is a good thing that the map of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei still has places our current mappers and contributors have not gone yet. It is your chance to say, "I mapped this first!".

Did you know that the chinese may have beaten Columbus in discovering America?

Image

Well, even if the chinese did discover America first, you can still become a mapper for a fully mapped town. You see, the roads and point-of-interests changes daily that a single mapper in a major town could never cover everything, every day. Shops open and close, roads that flows in two direction suddenly becomes a one-way street and small roads are widened on a daily basis all over our country.

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur which has the highest concentration of mappers, totalling 8 at the last count (Adil, SabriKadir, Akmalz, Miezarnd, Onetree710, Babie, Tuan Jamil and Ara_ffat) still cannot cope with the rate this 'big apple' of Malaysia grows. Each mapper documents their adventure differently as they have different interests, but its a great personal adventure nevertheless.
