Yes, Garmin does have Mobile XT for Blackberry

Link : http://www8.garmin.com/mobile/mobilext/

But this is service provider dependent which is not supported in Sin/Mal so cannot use

BB and malsingmap

#24 Post by aarik » Wed Mar 31, 2010 1:00 pm

Hi, I've successfully installed Garmin on my BB Bold. Now comes the part where I need to install Malsingmap. What shud be my next step.

Thanks in advance.
(I've read many threats saying that it's not possible but that was up to 2008, I have not come across any new threats, so maybe there's a workaround?)

AFAIK Garmin for BB does not work with off-line maps. Anyway, you can try to place MSM's GMAPSUPP.IMG into \Garmin folder.

Hi dvpro, thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, i can't even locate the garmin folder on my memory card. No access to device memory as well. Wish there was a way to install the map.

Much appreciated.

You can create the Garmin folder on your memory card and copy the gmapsupp into it. You can use your PC to do this. Unless BB prevents you from doing so which is unlikely.

GMXT for BB is service provider dependant and reads map data from the air ( service provider server ), as in-built security does not allow it to read from external memory. In other words, it has to have cellular coverage when you run the GMXT program.

Unfortunately our service provider in Sin and Mal do not provide this service.

I looked at the menu in Garmin and it doesn't even have an option for me to direct it to any folders.
So even though I have unlimited data, and an external memory card, I still can't utilise Garmin's services. How annoyingly secure.....
That means I'm back to google maps.

Thanks guys,
