By default, Nuvi during boot up looks for maps in several locations ( one of them is SD card/map directory) for availability of valid pre-installed Garmin maps[/quote]

Hi Silver,

i read another post which say...

Download gmapsupp_v512.zip from one the following links:
- http://hotfile.com/dl/112593909/9e2e65f ... 2.zip.html

Quick Installation Note:
- Extract & Copy gmapsupp.img to [storage card]\Garmin\
- Extract & Copy Product.JCV to [storage card]\Garmin\JCV\
Product.JCV is for nuvi that support JCV. Currently only some of KL JCV images. Join in to contribute the JCV photos so that the JCV collection grows.

I have try to copy the file to /Map folder, it works. but what about product.jcv file? should i follow about to create /Garmin folder?

Hi ariestey,

There is the reason why Wsian provide the installation note. If you want to get the feel of the JCV, just follow it. Other than that, you might not see the JCV (in certain place la..)

Downloading Malay map to Australian 1350 Nuvi

#414 Post by rusty74 » Fri Apr 08, 2011 5:37 pm

Gday guys and girls I coming over to KL from Australia and I've hired a car in KL and planning on driving on to Penang. I've downloaded the SingMalay map but it comes up with this problem in the Garmin Map Updater MapData/JCV/SGMYMAL.JCV
The archive is either in unknown format or damaged.
I'm new to this and find it difficult any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks and look forward to your responses.

:welcome: to Malaysia Bro Rusty74,

That JCV will not work in your Australia purchased Nuvi.

If you wish to drive to Penang without getting lost, your best bet is to download and install this LATEST map from HERE. This map has limited JCV images but at least they will work with your Nuvi. Even without JCV, you should not get lost.

Greetings Mate, bro jasonlee gave you good advise where to get the latest n greatest map.

Just download the zip file, unzip it and copy the Garmin file gmapsupp.img into your Nuvi 1490T SD card \map directory. Rename the file to any name you want eg MSM.img.

Enjoy your stay to our fine country

Confused on how to install asian maps on a USA Nuvi 1300

#418 Post by mojava67 » Tue Apr 12, 2011 12:39 pm

Hello & Good day.

I've been wracking my brain non-stop for a week now trying to comprehend
what files & program/s to use to install usable maps on my Nuvi 1300 from
USA.

I even installed MySing v2.30 & MSM but it still does not look like it's installed
properly.

I would appreciate any help ie; I have tried installing the img on main memory
along with micro sd card etc but still can't get a detailed map like it should be.

I've tried several of the different maps, older/newer and again nothing works.

Thanks

I would recommend that you install the MSM v5.13 map from here After downloading, just unzip, copy and paste the map (gmapsupp) into the Map folder in your microSD card. For easy remembrance, especially if you got many maps, it is advisable to rename it to something that is easily recognisable e.g. MSMv5.13.img, etc. To verify, goto Tools > Settings > myMaps and to use it, just check on the map "MSM NT v5.13".

You have come to the right place. Wreck your brain no more. Only if you had
stop wrecking your brain after 3 days ... never-mind that's another story ...

First of all, installing MSM maps into any Garmin GPSr is actually a very simple task.
You'll kick yourself once you know how to do it.

By the look of things, you are using the wrong map. Malsing v2.30 is like proton Saga model
launched by Dr M and we are now using MSM v5.13 - a bit like driving Prius.

So pls go to the correct map (you'll see the link on our Portal page under What's new)

Once you have downloaded the gmapsupp, extract it using Win-Zip or Rar. Your 1000 series
Nuvi supports custom map name so you may like to rename the gmapsupp.img to (let say)
MSM v513.img. Get yourself yourself a SD card. Create a folder called Map and put the
gmapsupp/whatever you name the map.img into this folder.

This following part I'm not too sure (I don't have 1000 series Nuvi):

Inside Map folder, you create anothe folder called jcv (\map\jcv) and put in whatever
is left over from the un-zipping of the download map.

Put the SD card into your unit and go play.

Goodluck.
