Unless you need a map to cover many SEA countries, why waste money on a map when you can get a free one here albeit covering only Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei, which I think should be sufficient for your use. The map here can be used on any Garmin device regardless of country of purchase. You can download the latest MSM v5.37 map from here - viewtopic.php?p=196273#p196273. Just follow the instructions.

You cannot copy the zip file straightaway to the directory. It doesn't work this way. The Zip file is compressed and you need to unzip it before you can see the map file (gmapsupp.img), then you copy the map file to the Garmin folder in your microSD card. It doesn't need any unl (unlock code file).

Yup, that is what i did. I unzip the file, saw the file inside. extracted it to the Garmin folder in it. Btw mine doesnt come withe microSD card. The directory is in the internal memory.

Go buy a microSD card, 2G is sufficient which is now very cheap. Create a garmin folder and put the map file gmapsupp.img in there.
Our recommendation is NOT to add any files into internal memory as Nuvi is very UNFORGIVING to any file corruption.

If there are no special reason, yes, the map should work.

By the way, I'm curious as to why the map in the directory does not work. Could you identify the path of this Garmin directory in the device e.g. c:\timbaktu\garmin that you stored the map initially?
