Malsingmaps on Osmand?

#1 Post by wifiabc » Sun Jan 13, 2013 8:42 am

After much googling, found some people in NZ that actually converted the NZOpenGPS garmin maps to Osmand OBF files. Would a similar process work to convert Malsingmaps to OBF ? ... 3&start=60

Extracted from the above forum thread:
Quoting Nev:
The process is very easy. 2 minutes work on my part and 10 minutes PC processing effort.

1 - Open all 10 IMG files with MapEdit++
2 - Export to OSM file
3 - With your favourite editor replace each occurrence of & with &
4 - Convert to OBF format using OsmAndMapCreator with all options ticked.

There are many tweaks in MapEdit++ or Global Mapper that can be performed to reduce file size etc. but why bother at this stage?

Technically not a problem, although it would be a lot of work. Scripts are available to convert between the two formats. The big question is whether the licences are compatible.
