Help needed to update Singapore Map & to buy Australian map

#1 Post by Alex123 » Wed Dec 04, 2013 5:47 pm

I am a novice and not so much a technical person.
I have an old Nuvi 205 with a local map installed.
I wish to update this map and need help. Willing to pay a fee.

I am also travelling to Sydney and Melbourne and wish to buy a map which I can use with my Nuvi instead of renting a GPS from the car rental company. I am looking to buy the map. Can anyone help please?

If I am in the wrong section, please help to re-direct me to the right place. Much thanks!

Why pay when you can do it yourself and learn something

Go buy a SD card
Create a sub folder in the SD card /garmin
Download map file from this link
https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=5 ... ile%2c.zip

Unzip the downloaded map file gmapsupp.img
Copy this file into the SD card /garmin sub-folder

If you are in Singapore, go to Sim Lim Square to Perfect Watch. 01-36. They sell it off the shelf
or if you are in Malaysia, buy it from M3
http://support.m3gps.com/index.php
else buy on-line from Garmin via this link
https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/maps/on ... 54-p1.html

If I am in the wrong section, please help to re-direct me to the right place. Much thanks!

Thanks VERY much for the advice. I will try to download but I am really very poor in these IT things.

I went to the online shop
The Australia & NZ maps is going for US$159
The world map is going for US$116
Now, does it make sense for me to buy the world map when it is cheaper and covers more than the expensive Australia & NZ map?

I called Perfect Watch, they are selling the Australian map for S$260.

I am hopeful that someone here may want to sell his Australian 7 NZ map.

World map is not as much detail as standalone map :)

Obviously perfect watch is selling much expansive than USD159... Better buy online..

Thanks for the advice on the Australian maps but I have decided to buy a new TomTom (A$98) or Garmin Nuvi (A$169) when I am there.
Cheaper than buying the map here for $260 and I guess I can use the TomTom or Nuvi in Singapore by just replacing the SDcard, I guess. Makes more sense, I think.

Now I just have to buy a new SDcard and try to download the latest Singapore & Malaysia maps.

You can use our maps but you will not able to have the Junction View / Lane Assist feature which is restricted to localized Nuvis.

In Australia & NZ, TomTom is king but in Singapore and Malaysia, TomTom has no up-to-date maps like Garmins can get from our website for free. If you have a Garmin, regardless of where you bought it, our v6.xx maps will show you Junction View and LA in KL and in addition even ALG in Penang.

Ooops, sorry, are you saying that if I buy a Garmin when I am in Australia, that Garmin set if installed with our local maps will not have the Junction View / Lane Assist feature?

Hi, Jason Lee, now I am confused. Was SilverBeauty referring to only TomTom sets? When you mention v6.xx maps, are you referring to only Malaysia maps? What about Singapore maps?

Which is the latest Singapore and Malaysia map version that I can download from this site for free?

How long does it take to download the Singapore and Malaysia maps?

(Please forgive me for my ignorance. I am really a novice with this GPS thing. Please bear with me, thank you)
