Newbie Guide to looking for Garmin Maps other than MSM

But what is OSM vs MSM ?

Sorry, I was not accusing you. I usually "remind" new Members before they go down the wrong path.
Anyway, OSM or Open Source Map is similar in principle to MSM. Its where the public submit tracks
to an Admin to compile a map of a certain area. Whereas MSM is location specific, OSM have maps
all over the world. Not too sure about POIs.

Bro nuviuser, good GPS map for Garmin is hard to come by due to Garmin map being very good. If you cannot find a map that covers the region you are visiting, you have several alternative choices :

1. Buy the map

2. Rent a car with built in GPS or one with optional windscreen mount GPS

3. Borrow a friends GPS that has pre-loaded GPS

Please note original Garmin maps of any country cannot be shared with others. Even if you managed to copy it, you will not be able to use it as it is protected with unlock codes either in the internal memory or SD card. You may wish to google for an open source map.

A long long time ago, I use Garmin Taiwan NT 8.01 map which was in Pin-Yin. IMHO the map is fine but the translation from traditional Chinese to pin-yin was a challenge to interpret. Very difficult and most of time cannot find or wrong interpret

or u can do what i did.. buy a garmin at taiwan. its cheaper there as well..

comes pre-loaded with taiwan's map.. and u can put MSM inside as well..
