I am new to this group, but I think the maps uploaded are great!

I wish to know if anyone has links to download maps for London, UK.

Dear Bro TXRunner,

Firstly :welcome: to MSM. I cordially invite you to read my Welcome Message:

http://www.malsingmaps.com/forums/viewt ... 27#p141527

As to your request for map, pls allow me to explain a little MSM policy.

MSM does not condone nor allow the discussion and sharing of hacked or cracked maps and software.
I am not saying you are trying to do this, just a friendly (pre-emptive) reminder so we do not have to
go down that road. As far as I know, most maps of London are locked and not free. However, there are
groups like us doing community maps of UK etc.

I suggest you head to Newbie Guide to looking for Garmin Maps other than MSM and look for OSM.
OSM stands for Open Street Maps. You can virtually get maps of the whole world here provided if you
looking at the correct GPS format (i.e. Garmin). It wouldn't hurt to return to OSM some mapping
data like street names or POIs once you have used their maps.

Good luck

Why don't you try out the OSM and search for GPS rental before you buy?
The Map is not cheap and you may only use it once.

As a newbie, it is beneficial to spend time in our wiki section to start learning about GPS.

As for maps, our wiki section contains references for available community maps. Some are good while others are basic maps.
http://www.malsingmaps.com/wiki/index.p ... ngapore%3F

If you want good map of Europe, go an dbuy the official Garmin map is hard to match for details.

For third party map, just put the map file name gmapsupp.img in the SD card/garmin directory.

The reason you are getting the error is because your unit does not contain map file of Scotland.

Hi Seniors,
I need help with Australia (Queensland map).
I downloaded the Queensland map by OSM and by Alex Chow through the links provided.
I have problems with both map. Here is the situation:
1. I have Garmin Nuvi 1350 (original US Set with US Map built in)
2. I have been using it in Singapore successfully for many months now. I have created \map folder on an SD card and saved Singapore gmapsupp.img in the folder. So, I know this work

Problem #1:
3. I loaded the OSM Queensland map in the same \map folder. I can see the map on the list in the GPS unit and have it selected.
4. I can also type in latitude and longitude for queensland, and the GPS shows street map in QLD.
5. I cannot however do a street search through the "Where To" function because the Country is set to Singapore.
6. When I tried to change the country: Singapore, Malaysia, US, Canada, etc. shows up as list of countries but not Australia or Queensland. So, I cannot search for street address in Queensland.
7. I tried creating \garmin folder and saved the queensland map as gmapsupp.img in this folder and remove all singapore map.
8. The same problem still exist and worse, when I click on the "Where To" Button, it tells me that No Map is loaded.

What did I do wrong? Same problem happens to both the OSM map and Alex Chow's map.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

You cannot do street search in this manner unless you have satellite lock to tell the GPS where you are. If you change your country then you still need satellite lock in the chosen country before you can do a search (which may be impossible when you are not physically there). Fortunately, there is a way to do it without getting satellite lock and that is to place your cursor (car) in the land you wish to do the search.

The way to do it is to zoom out and scroll to the country you wish to do searches, zoom in (on Queensland for example) and touch the screen on any of the map objects (roads or POIs). Then you will be given the option to set location. Once you have set your location to that country, you can do searches in that country's map (until you shutdown). You may also simulate routing.

Some maps may not be properly compiled to allow street search but as long as you have set your location in that country, you should be able to do a POI search if the map is configured with the search facility. If you cannot search for even POIs then the map may not be searchable.

Hi Senior Jason,

Thank You for the information.
I have tried your suggestion:
1. Turn GPS Off (In Door Simulate routing mode)
2. Set location at Brisbane Airport.
3. I can search through POIs and Simulate routing.
4. When I try to do street search, however, it says that there is no Map Data Available.

What does this mean? Is this what you meant by the map is not compiled for street search?
Any pointers on how to find street searchable map for Queensland?

Thanks again for your help. :tq:

Cheers,
