gmapbmap.img - this is a base map (normally world map)
gmapsupp.img - this is user map (it can be either generate by gold installer, patchIMG or sendmap application)

There is no way to put 2 gmapsupp.img file (same file name) in your Garmin folder. For Mobile XT (because I'm using it)the solution was, we can put it one file in the Garmin folder in main memory and the other in Garmin folder in SD card. Or combine both map using software. Or rename the 2nd gmapsupp file to gmapsup2 (sifu please correct me if i'm wrong).

what i did is to rename the other gmapsupp file to something else if u have more than 1. then whenever u one to use that particular map, rename it to gmapsupp. u don't need all maps at the same time. another way is to create folders for individual gmapsupp & replace it when u want
u can delete the base map. i don't hv any base map on my device but it helps to pin point yr location/country

I have renamed gmapsupp.img to gmapsup1.img or gmapsup2.img This would allow up to 3 maps on one device in the garmin directory. I also have gmapsupp.img running on the device and a seperate gmapsupp.img running on a card. You cannot create a file name greater than gmapsup2, garmin only recognises the 3 file names i have listed (in addition to the base map of course).

For storage purposes you can call an IMG file anything you like. If however you want the device to read the file into active memory then you must use one of the file names i have listed previously. The device will not recognise a file name to memory that is outside the gmapsupp, gmapsup1 or gmapsup2 naming. Alternatively you can simply rename your aaa.img file to gmapsupp.img when you want it to be active, then rename it back to aaa.img when you dont.
