Sandakan Dragon Boat 2009
Sandy Plains, Karamunting
2nd August 2009

The Sandakan race was held late this year as part of the Sandakan Fest Calendar.
In the open category there were 17 teams including the very strong Tuaran team.
In the Chinese Category, the 3 arch rivals were all present, namely:

Sandakan Fishing (Tong Kang) Association Team A & B
Tawau Teochew Association
Tawau Sunday Hash

Since we were accused by Sunday Hashers in KK as "Sneaky" for fielding a weak team in Tawau
and a strong team in KK, we decided to keep up with the "Sneakiness". We fielded a third
team under Mark Lodge.

To cut the story short, Tong Kang B came in third, Tawau Teochew was second and Mark Lodge can in first.
Mark Lodge's victory came in the very last 50m of the race. Stamina won them the race.

The Sandakan boats are getting old and leaky. I hope they will replace them by next year.
Sorry I forgot to pack my camera but here is a few photos from my handphone. I'll try to
solicit for photos and upload them at a later stage.

Ok guys... this is what we'll do: We row like a bat out of hell.

You may remember our "Orang Kuat" from KK race aka Mr Caught by Police in Tawau.
Seconded to paddle for Team Mark Lodge

Putting on safety Gear and complaining about the colours. I think he wants black.

The retrieval. These guys are still not 100% sure they won - being such a close call.
That's it for now ... until I find some more photos. Thanks for your time.

Are you sure he is wearing green? U consume too much of the sponsored stuff huh

I see a guy on the Mark's Lodge Team with a sponsored bottle in his hand. No wonder they can row so fast.
