I cannot but agree that it's an impressive watch, or what Suunto calls a wrist-top weather-station. But it'll still be a victim of the phenomenon called the 'Dead Battery Symdrome'. Thats the main reason why I stayed away from digital and/or quartz watches when I joined the Army. My worst experience was when I was on some course and holding a key appointment for a co-ordinated mission. So what happens? My Gen-1 Pro-Trek dies on me. My shadow's watch just wouldn't do because he wasn't around when we hacked time. So simultaneous became staggered simultaneous; veto factor = mission failure.

So it was mechanicals for me until Casio came up with their line of solar powered Pro-Treks, still they weren't perfect. The PRG-50, which didn't have a stop-watch(??!!), had tough solar technology teething problems; the battery just wouldn't recharge. I had to swap it out twice with the local service centre. The PRG-60 just looked plain weird with the ana-digi approach. The PRG-80 and 100 was just too big for my wrist. Gave up on them until the PRG-110 came along... Perfection!

Mine! Photo credit due.

I love the barometer function; when I say that it's going to rain and it does.

Right. Open my eyes big big  when I walk by a watch shop. I heard that those were smaller but I haven't seen any in real life yet.

I use the Suunto X9 the model before the "i" version. So far very happy with it. The GPS feature in it is very basic for keeping tracks & WP's.
It uses a built in battery and requires recharging using a charger. The only thing is if and when you use the GPS the battery sucks. Tops in use is about 3hours continous usage before it goes flat. Not for serious use, unless if you bring tons of batteries that you can put into the charger to top up your battery.

As I would like to reiterate "Dead Battery Syndrome". 'Nuff said. Sometimes, it just ain't worth the hassle.

I saw Sunnto selling at my regular watch 'gazing' shop at Peninsular Plaza, Keng Wah watches (opp cathay photo). You may want to check it out .. I got most of my Seiko watches from them.

My latest watch is a CatEye
