hi, its been a while since i never visit malsingmaps.com and everything is changed including the front page and the forum, so i have to reg a new account and found out that my old account no longer valid. From the old forum, there are plenty of amateur radio operator in there, but now they are no longer seen in this new forum. i seen a lot of HR user own a gps device, so maybe they can come here and sharing their info or ideas on gps or in amateur radio.
So, any member need any help in applying amateur radio license, or in the radio amateur examination (RAE), maybe i can lean a hand on it.

lehlew, very kind of you to offer your help.
I'm interested in Amateur Radio, but have no chance to see the actual unit in action.
If those Amateur Radio operator can demo or have a TT section to introduce it to us, that will be very helpful for new comer.

there are two type of amateur radio license in Malaysia, that is
-AMATEUR RADIO STATION CLASS A
-AMATEUR RADIO STATION CLASS B

To obtain a class B license,

You must
-at lease 14 year old
-applicants under 21 must required to present consent from their parents or guardian
-you must be a malaysian or citizens of countries who have a reciprocal arrangement with malaysia

Onces you fulfill those criteria above, you can apply the Radio amateur Examination (RAE) from Malaysia Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) or (SKMM) in malay.
The date of exam and application form will be announce and available at MCMC website. MCMC
held RAE exam twice yearly, mainly April-Jun(Midyear) and November(Year end). For your info, you need to submit postorder RM50 and a photocopy of mycard together with the application form and submit to your local MCMC office. After 2 to 3 week, you will received your confirmation letter including your venue, date, time, exam rule, and your index number.

So,what is the RAE,
The RAE is comprises 100 objective question(question will available in english and BM),3 hour length on following topics
-the fundamental theory of electricty, electronics and radiocommunication
-The theory and operation of amateur radio equipment, include antenna system, FM modulation and SSB techniques, transmission lines, transistors,....
-the operation procedure knows as (SOP), means the do and don't
-The ITU radio regulations.

After the long 3 hour exam, you will know your fate in about 1 to 2 month time,by post and by online at MCMC website.

if you PASS, then you can apply the class B license

I will elebrorate more on class A later.

for your info, the last RAE is on 28November2007

I have attatch an official guildline from MCMC, hope that you all can have a look.

Regarding the price on the equipment,it is depend on your budget, rm 350 to RMXXXXXX
for a class B station setup,a simple VHF transceiver is cost around RM600, A 15A power supply is about RM200 and an antenna and transmission cable is around rm150. For a handy walkie talkie, it will around rm 450 and you will ready on air.

pls note that there are people who buy those equipment from singapore or thailand and sell it locally and markup the price up to 40% to 50%. So as a newcomer, pls ask around.

Thanks for your detail reply.
Let say we already obtain the Class B license, with budget of RM1k, what can we do with that?
Can we utilise the repeater to communicate between 2 party just like walkie-talkie in a greater distance? Or it is like a taxi radio where it is broadcast to public?

What will be the range of coverage?

I understand MART have National Link Repeater that was setup by Motorola.
But would like to know if we are using the National Link Repeater can we have point to point communication?
Or it will be broadcasted and the communication overheard by others?
