Garmin Edge 705 with MalsingMaps? Can it work?

#22 Post by boostbutt » Tue Aug 04, 2009 9:35 pm

hi, I'm planning to buy a Garmin Edge 705 for my cycling activity from overseas to save some money. I think they are generally cheaper at about 700-800SGD incl Heart Rate Strap, Speed/Cadence sensors for the bike. However, they do not come with an SD card (map).

Can I use MalsingMaps for Garmin (which can be downloaded from this site) for the Edge 705?

How do I prep an SD card for this (what files do I load into it?) and what size of SD card is generally acceptable for this map?

Appreciate any help! Thanks.

Bro boostbutt, in future please make use of our "search" feature as there is already an existing thread which has answers to your questions. :tq:

Edge 800 - Which MSM map to install and How to?

#25 Post by prastigo » Mon Nov 07, 2011 10:11 am

Hello every one, I am a newby here.

Just recently bought the garmin edge 800 for cycling, it did not come with any map.

I tried to install the
"3. Official Garmin compiled Malsingmaps Malaysia / Singapore / Brunei NT 2011.30 (FREE)"
and tried to follow the instruction on the post #1 viewtopic.php?p=147348#p147348
to install it on my edge 800, but it still gave me the message that it could not unlock the map.

Can any one guide me on how to install the map?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Go.

Don't install the MSM My/Sg/Bru NT 2011.30 map as you can't benefit from the JCV and LA which your device does not support. You should instead download and install the latest MSM v5.30 map from here. Just copy and paste the gmapsupp.img file into the Garmin folder of your microSD card. You can ignore the product.JCV file.

Redstorm,

Thank you for the help.

I installed the "gmapsupp.img" on a new card and it WORKS.

Can I install two different maps in a single micro SD card? can i rename the "gmapsupp.img" with another name for the other map?

Regards,
Go.

I don't own an Edge 800, so I am not sure if it is able to install more than one map. AFAIK, only the Nuvi 1xxx, 2xxx and 3xxx series are able to do so. Usually, what we do is to name the folder as "Map" instead of "Garmin" and dump the maps there but you need to rename them to any name you desire e.g. Singapore.img, mymap.img, etc. No harm trying this method to see if it works and post your finding here. Thanks.
