New Garmin 62S

#1 Post by adilothman » Tue Jul 06, 2010 1:03 pm

The replacement model to the ol' workhorse 60CSx is coming soon.

Does everything the 60CSx does and more and incorporating elements taken from the Oregon series.

A few quick facts:

Ability to load scanned maps (ditto Oregon).
65,000 colors vs 256 (60CSx) but Oregon has larger display
Quad helix antenna, 3-axis-compass (no need to keep the unit level anymore)
20 hours battery life (vs 10+ for Oregon)
Button operated (vs touchscreen for Oregon). Oregon trumps on this for ease to text entry.
Barometer (same)
Paperless geocaching (ditto Oregon)
Wireless data transfer (ditto Oregon)
62S has 1.7GB memory onboard
Automatic creation of high and low elevation waypoints whilst tracking + start and finish points.
And all the tracking ability you love about the 60 series.

We are planning to do a Bulk Buy (with priority to Valued Contributors) for a very attractive price. Pls list your names if you are interested. If we do not meet minimum target orders, we will abort. First delivery 3rd week of July.

1. Adil Othman (2 units)
2. Joe Adnan (1)

Minus Malaysian tax, the 62S will be around RM1450+. So maybe it is more competitively priced in Singapore. I expect it would be about RM100 cheaper in SG vs MSM price.

Don't worry about the cut-off date. It is now at Sirim certification stage and I believe approval will only come at end July / early August. Price is yoyo-ing a little and i will announce a firm price later. It is not going to vary much. I am working hard to get the VCs to buy it even cheaper at RM1600. Maybe RM1575?? Unfortunately since stocks are limited, we have to give priority to VC's and old timers (you know who you are! :nehneh: )

Just place your interest by PM. Makes it easier for me too. As of todate there are 11 firm orders. All shy to post in open forum

The price of the GPSmap62S in Singapore(PW) is S$699 before any less... That works out to about MYR1666.25?

Those in the 'in' group may get better price. =)

Haha, been there once. Just look see look see. Only bought some enerloop batteries there in Sim Lim Sq.

By the way Adil, is the 62s and 78s regionalised when using the NT maps? Can US sets use our maps without any problem?
