1. It doesn't display Street Names in full except in abbreviations e.g M C Y Y. Should I download all Malaysia maps to solve this issues?

2. Have tried to download other East Malaysia POI e.g .img, .gdb, .gpx etc and placed them into \garmin or \gpxs folders etc. It doesn't show up anything except the current ones which already saved by me.

Kindly advice, thanks.

You need to install Garmin Mobile XT v4.10.40. The release after v4.10.40 will not show the full name of place in the Map...

Ruffey,

That could be the answer to all the issue above - Appreciated it. Guess that, I need to downgrade from v5.x back to the v4.x GMobile XT then.

Hopefully, all my POIs, routes, waypoints etc going to be intact.

Thanks,

Nokia E90

#248 Post by ktak888 » Mon Nov 17, 2008 1:19 pm

Dear All,

I started using E90 with it built in GPS as a start, I bought the map for Malaysia/Singapore for 3 months trials as nokia trial only last for 3 days (Not sure why, but I am sure I had been shortchange).

My question is on autoroaming charges.

1) When I went KL for 2 days, I try using the GPS on E90, with navigation guide with voices
when I am back my total charges was around SGD$280.00

2) If I use the simulated navigation, I am always lost halfway as the simlulated navi will reach my destination way before me, as I am in the jam

3) Thirdly, if I only on the GPS with the navigation guide, will there be charges too?

4) Is there anyway, I can plot the map and made use of the GPS to follow the plotted map
becasue it seem that I cannot do it with the Nokia E90

Regards

Re: Roaming Charges ? Need understanding

Dear Bro ktak888, the charges are not so much to do with the E90 but rather the Nokia Maps software you are using that comes with it. For normal non guided GPS its totally free but when you are using the voice guided navigation that yes you have to pay for the subscription, also if you are using assisted gps (A-GPS) you will also incur network data charges as well. My advise is to either use a different software (ie. Garmin MXT) or at least turn off A-GPS on your phone. The subscription you have paid for will still work but the satellite lock may take slightly longer to get a fix. Hope that helps.

Dear Tecrc,

Thanks for the reply, but I still dont understand the meaning of A-gps.
The moment I on the GPS, it would show me the location, as I drive, the GPS will still
show me where am I, is this what it mean by A-gps (Sound stupid question , but trying to cler up)

AS for the voiced navigation, it is also over the network right? so there is also roaming charges
right?

So if I switched to Garmin Mobile TX, does it come with voice navigation or it have to be purchase yearly also.

Let me say what I need and can you advise me on how to reduce the ridiculous roaming charge but allow me to navigate with at least a map (plotted to my destination, sound stupid question again?)

Thanks
