Hi, Just downloaded Malaysia / Singapore maps. One quick question - why do I need to "Change Country" every time I switched on my Garmin 205. If I do not select country "Malaysia" I would not be able to see most of the roads when I "Search All".
Thanks

Did you buy your unit locally or from elsewhere?

Have you had satellite lock in Malaysia.

What is your firmware version?

Have you updated your firmware?

Have you tried a hard reset where you select your country on initialisation and your GPS should retain all the customisation data you input?

I bought the unit locally about a month back and have no problem with satelite lock in Malaysia.

I have maps of 6 other countries which I have unchecked in mapinfo.

How do you do a hard reset and select country on intialisation? What I usually do is "Change Country" and select "Malaysia".

When you do a reset, you may lose your Recently Found data for some models and in other models, you may lose all your Favorites. I think the later applies to the Nuvi 205 so do back-up your gpx folder first.

To reset, you need to touch your monitor screen while holding the power switch to the ON position. You may need to hold for 45 seconds or more. The position of the screen to touch varies with different models and for the 205, I think it is the lower right-hand corner. If that is not the correct location, you should try all the 4 corners but the important thing is to hold the power switch to the ON position long enough simultaneously. When correctly done, you will be asked whether you wish to delete all User Data, to which you should answer yes.

After the initialisation input to select your country, time zone, language, etc, you should get satellite lock asap. Once you have lock you can reboot and hopefully you problem is cured. If not, you need to take your unit back to the seller as it should still be under warrantee since it is only 1 month old. Having to select the country (initialisation) every time yo switch on is definitely not normal.

Change Country only applies when you have maps of more than 1 country active. I don't think this is a map problem.

BTW, what Malaysia/Singapore map did you download?

Hi Bro Moey,

My USA Nuvi 200 and all my frens' USA Nuvi 205 & 205W also no problems. The initialisation data should be held in memory with some power from your batteries or a capacitor. You may lose this memory if your battery or capacitor is kaput unless it is held in ROM memory which I am not sure is the case.
