#31 Post by fax2nelson » Thu Oct 23, 2008 10:34 am

Anyone can comment on this unit for the application on Malaysia and Singapore roads?

Can the lane assist feature works on Malsingmaps?

I intend to get one after Xmas :)

:tq:

lane assist can work only if the map has lane information. Although I am not one of the mappers, I am almost certain malsingmaps do not support such information. In fact, I don't even think official Garmin Singapore Malaysia map support it. Probably only supported by the official maps of those countries that sell this version of Nuvi.

Which Garmin should I buy?

I'm about to buy a Garmin GPS to bring to Malaysia with me. These are my choices:

What model do you recommend?

Thank you!

:)

It's impossible to answer your question because it depends not what we want but what you want. All the models will work in Malaysia/Singapore.

From your list:
If you do not want older models, then skip the 3xx model.
If you want the latest models, then choose the 2x5 models.
If you have lots of money, then buy the most expensive model
If you want a bigger screen, then buy the model with W
If you want traffic feature, then buy the model with T but note no such service in Malaysia
I forgot what the 250 models have but if it is BT or TTS, then it depends on whether you like such functions.

Thanks TKS! My post was a bit vague. It's because this is my first GPS and I don't know what the options are. You reply was very helpful!

I also found this page which was helpful:

I decided to go with the 200W.

Thanks again :)

200W has been replaced by 205W.

I managed to install it in my Nuvi710, manually extracting the downloaded zip file and place it inside \Garmin\voice of main Garmin drive. See here for more info: http://www8.garmin.com/vehicles/howtoin ... oices.html
