Re: Is it possible to download MSM Maps into Non SG/MY unit?

baileyng wrote:Hi bros, I came across another unit of Non SG/MY unit (Thailand) but this time the model is 205W. This time I managed to get some info from that unit. The software version is 5.3, Audio Version is 2.0, GPS SW Version is 3.10b.

My question :
1. Is it possible to download MSM NT Map into this unit?? (Currently the maps inside are Taiwan (gmapprom) and Thailand (gmapprom1).

Since the owner is a Malaysian, the seller installed MFM map into her unit (gmapsupp). Since I cannot see Garmin units any MSM maps, I called her to get an SD card and I've installed MSM Ver 4.04 into her SD card (gmapsupp also). Please advice.

p/s: again, this is not my unit, OK?

Bailey Ng
Yes. Since both "gmapprom.img" and "gmapprom1.img" are in use, you can rename MSM NT to "gmapsupp.img". Unlock code file should be "gmapsupp.unl".

Hi Bailey,

It is possible to install MSM NT 2009.40 map into this device. Just follow the steps prescribed under "Garmin User B" in this link but, since the MSM NT map by default is also gmapprom1.img, which is the same as the Thai map, it will overwrite the map if you install into the main memory. The only way is to install it in the SD card. Before you do so, change the name of the MSM NT 2009.40 map and unlock code files from gmapprom1.img and gmapprom1.unl to gmapsupp.img and gmapsupp.unl respectively. You cannot put the files together with the MSM Ver 4.04 map since it also share the same file name - gmapsupp.img. Get a fresh SD card to install the MSM NT map.

Thx bro Zeus and bro Redstorm, I will try to do this if the owner wants me to do. Heard that model 205W is discontinued, is it correct?? My friend went to Aeco Tech in Digital Mall asking for this model but was told discontinued. Even 255W is also no stock.

Yo... bro Bailey, a number of models are discontinued such as the 200, 205W, 760, etc. Why buy an older model when newer ones are much better with more features.

Check out the new nuvi 1350. The spec is almost the same as nuvi 255W.

Hmm, newer features like JCV and LA are not widely found in the map. Anyway, at last, she got something like 1350 (not sure the model), slimmer and sexier, some more flexible like rubber cover or something like that. Will get to see it tomorrow when she send it to me to update the map for her 'uncle'.

p/s : why married women come to me?? :-k

OK guys, today I got the opportunity to touch and see the so called new model 1350. What I found was when you want to switch map, you need to go back to Menu>Tools>etc not like the 255W where you can just press the Driving icon and then the list of maps pop up.

Also, when I tried to add the MSM4.04 into the unit, it was not listed in the unit. When I browsed through the folder in the unit, it's not the same as other model. The maps img files were not there. I don't know where were they. In the Garmin folder, there's only one file with .htm or something like that. That's all.

My question, if anybody manage to load any maps into this model successfully, please let me know how you did it. Thx.
