Place the original English_American_.vpm & english_american_.sum files in another folder, and copy the other English_American_.vpm into \Garmin\Voice folder.

If you are looking for something "good and lasting", all the Nuvis are about the same. The difference is in the features. Nobody but yourself knows what you want.

Go to http://www.garmin.com and compare the features of all the different models before you narrow down your choices.

If you do not want older models, then skip the 3xx or 6xx model.
If you want the latest models, then choose the 2x5 or 7x5 models.
If you have lots of money, then buy the most expensive model
If you want a bigger screen, then buy the model with W
If you want traffic feature, then buy the model with T but note no such service in Malaysia & Singapore
If the unit has BT or TTS, then it depends on whether you like such functions.

Just to share... one of Nuvi features that I cannot do without is "Multiple point routing" (available for Nuvi700 series and above). With this feature I'll be able to fine tune my route in Mapsource (and transfer it) or add via points (not just 1, I think up to 200) to my route in device. :-'

Go to this Garmin site, select the features that you need, and it'll recommend the models to choose from: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134

Should put this as Sticky. Good sound advise for GPS Newbies on what Garmin models to look for

Faulty speakers on Nuvi

#50 Post by turborog » Sat Nov 08, 2008 6:52 pm

Hi all,

I bought my Nuvi 680 from States abt 5 months ago and recently its internal speakers started going cranky. Wonder if I could send it for repair here in Sin? Anyone with experience or advice on this issue?

Thanks in advance.
