but i dun have a set... so i can ask the vendor? or ask for the manual??
the manual does not contain chipset or firmware information. You can check it directly in the unit using the steps I told you as above.

Re: Buying Nuvi from US/Canada

I just return from LA and bought a Nuvi 200 with preloaded US maps on sale at USD229 (after sales tax USD 247). MRSP is USD 299.

It appears that Garmin GPS products are some 50% more than other brands such TomTom, Mio and Magellan.

Wherever one can buy and pay cheaper, GO FOR IT!!! Just also remember, all other extra charges that comes along or are added to it, are inevitable or unfortunate but at some great bargains, none at all... making it the best buy and if you know where that is, all the luck to you!!! :good:

Yes, Garmin is helluva lot more as opposed to other brands but thats what it is when the technology belongs to the USA even though its Taiwan having a piece of the cake!!!

Let us hope, others come on to compete and compete well, like TomTom and prices too will impact Garmin to reduce... I like both now but loathe the high cost for the periodic renewal of updates/upgrades even though its optional.

Since the introduction of the Nuvi's a few yrs ago, they have SiRF III chipsets. This is not new technology.

Maybe TS is looking for Nuvi with MTK chipsets?

I think most unit are SiRF and only a few have MediaTek or Bravo chipset. For me, it does not matter what is the chipset as long as it's function normally..

Are u referring to the latest upgrade for the firmware? If it is so, then the Garmin site should tell u what u are getting from the latest upgrade.
