Yes, it does make SOME voice prompts. But very minimal. It's very selective in what it says.

First make sure only 1 mapset is enabled at Map Info. If the problem persists, try performing "Clearing User Data" procedure (pls read Page 42 of Nuvi 2x5W owner's manual). However before executing this, do back up \Garmin\GPX folder (if you need to revert current user data afterwards, ie. Favorites list, etc.).

Thanks a lot. I have a feeling it might be the first issue - having two maps being used.

Just wondering, the files we get off MSM is named 'gmapprom1' whereas the original file is simply 'gmapprom'. Can we delete the original img file so that the only maps available is the latest downloaded one?

Thanks so much for your quick assistance.

If you don't plan to use the preloaded map (GMAPPROM.IMG) you can always rename it to another name not recognized as a map file in Nuvi, ie. GMAPPROM.BAK, and if you'd like to save space as well, you can safely back it up somewhere else.

JCV from SG/MY map is NOT going to work on Taiwan firmware.

You can remove the JCV file and the warning message will goes away. :-'

Changing to firmware to a localised one is considered modifying and is illegal and not sanctioned by Garmin. So, we don't permit the discussion of such topic here. Besides, there are risk involved, one of which is that you risk your set becoming a paperweight if you do it wrongly. It will also void your warranty if it is still valid. Even if you modd it successfully to be able to use the JCV and LA, there is also a chance that your set could behave erractically. If you really want to take the risk to do it, find out how to go about it somewhere and please do not discuss it here. Thank you.
