Is your nuvi a localized unit? If yes, you can update the map here.

To show the map in your mapsource, you need to have the GMapTool software to work on it. I have never done it, so am not in a position to explain further. Perhaps, you may want to google for an answer.

To update your map in your Nuvi from a newer version via Mapsource, select the map tool and using a appropriate zoom level, select the map tiles needed or select the whole map.

As you drag your mouse, the map outlines will turn to yellow. Map tiles will turn into pink on completion of selection

Make sure that your Nuvi is plug in and recognized by computer

On Mapsource title bar, click on "transfer" and "Send to Device".

If your Nuvi is recognized, your Unit ID should appear. Select the appropriate directory to send your maps to ie... MainMenu/Garmin or SD Card/Garmin ( wherever your maps are stored )

Hit send and wait as map is transferred

Bro high flyer, before sending map via Mapsource, you should also know which map is using which IMG map file name in Garmin, so that the older version is removed after installing the new one. However, this is not a problem if both maps are named GMAPSUPP.IMG because Mapsource will send the map to device as GMAPSUPP.IMG. In other words, if GMAPSUPP.IMG in Garmin is another map, and when you send the map using Mapsource, this map would be replaced instead, leaving you with 2 maps of different versions, and loosing another map which is not intended in the first place. To correctly identify which IMG map file is which map, pls use GMapTool.

I screw up my Garmin Nuvi 255w. My unit was faulty due to dead pixel 5 of it. It has my house address and the latest map.
Then I change to a another unit. Map not update even I update from the Garmin map. Now my map unable to show.
Please help.

By the way my Nuvi now has 2 dead pixel after 5 days. Is this normal for Nuvi 255W user?

I have gone through 3 Nuvis in 3 years and never have 0ne dead pixel, new or old. Might be your external charger or the way you use it.

As for your map not showing, backup all files. Then delete all map files ( main memory and SD ). ie..gmapsupp.img, gmapprom.img, gmapprom1.img

Download MSM 2009.4 from our download section. Copy this file into SD card/garmin ( gmapsupp.img ). Plug into Nuvi. Does this work ?
