Hi Guys,

I have loaded the MSM 2012 NT CNY edition map to my Nuvi 205, but the voice instructions is not working. is there any way to get the voice instructions back? thanks in advance.

Under system-tools-language-voice language did you select an appropriate TTS voice file?

Hi Experts,

I bought a humble nuvi 205 locally/ SG several years back and was trying to update via
http://www.garmin.com.sg/mapupdate/

however, that website cannot recognize my serial number on the GPS -

calling up garmin shop in orchard - sales guy say model not supported, buy new one - even though website above has a link for nuvi 205.

does anyone know how to fix this? was browsing the comments but couldn't find an answer.

best regards,
Jason

Don't waste your time. Your 3-year-old unit does not qualify for any map updates from Garmin, period.

If you want an up-to-date map, download from HERE.

You need to have an SD card in which a \Garmin folder has been created. You have to unzip the downloaded file and copy only the gmapsupp.img into the SD card \Garmin folder. You can forget about the file Product.JCV because your device does not support Junction View.

Dear Bro tbh,

While it is true that the Garmin website does present different map formats for different models, only LM models have a life-time update feature. The Nuvi 205 does not have LM and as far as I can remember, you can only HAVE ONE UPDATE WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF THE FIRST SATELLITE LOCK.

Thus a 3-year-old 205 does not qualify for updates so it is a waste of time to try.

This only apply to Navteq commercial map.

For MSM maps released on garmin.sg site, as long as units are SGMY local serial, no limitation.

Bro Wsian,

Thanks for the clarification. If that is the case, then isn't something wrong with the Garmin website if they do not allow a local set to download?

Unless of course the user supplied the Serial Number when the required number is the GPSID.

apologies for reviving old post.

i have tried both device id = 3584xxxxxx and serial number = 1C154xxxx on the site, both does not work, showing
'Your Serial Number is incorrect.'

I agree with jasonlee - even today (26sept2013) this site - http://www.garmin.com.sg/mapupdate/
still shows nuvi 205 maps are available for download (Malsingmaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT2013.20)

if not allowed, why even put up that page? really wonder what is going on. if the gps is only going to have inbuilt map updated only 1 year, it should be clearly described. much as i love using a real gps - if updates limit to 1 year, i really dont see a point using garmin gps - just switch to google maps on phone..

also thanks to tbh for link to other map - works great for now, but would be good to grab official map above. on the other hand.. if official map is actually available, perhaps people wouldnt have needed the link tbh has shown me...

hope someone can help with questions following the above -
1. is the map on http://www.garmin.com.sg/mapupdate/ different from tbh's link? (www.malsingmaps.com/forums/viewtopic.ph ... 6&start=30)

2. i thought i read somewhere that MSM creates the map for http://www.garmin.com.sg/? or did i read wrongly?

best regards,
jason

Why your unit ID number is not recognized by Garmin server, you have to take up with Garmin Taiwan support
Link : http://www.garmin.com.sg/support/

Link for map that bro tbh provided is for a MsM compiled map using compiler supplied by Garmin. This is updated more frequently vs Garmin commercial and Garmin "compiled" using MsM supplied data on quarterly basis

hope someone can help with questions following the above -
1. is the map on http://www.garmin.com.sg/mapupdate/ different from tbh's link? (viewtopic.php?f=26&t=24436&start=30)

Maps available via Garmin Website consists of three different map sources, namely Garmin NT Commercial Map, Garmin-MsM collaboration map and Garmin-MfM collaboration map. The first map is a commercial map and user entitled only to one update while the other two map only needs your unit ID to obtain unlock code. It is free for life of your unit.

2. i thought i read somewhere that MSM creates the map for http://www.garmin.com.sg/? or did i read wrongly?

It is a collaboration between Garmin and MsM. Garmin compiles the map based on map data supplied by MsM.

best regards,
jason
