The Nuvi 1450

#1 Post by infinitium » Sat Aug 07, 2010 11:41 am

Hey guys,

Has anyone used the Garmin 1450 device? It's getting quite good reviews online from what I can tell. Am interested in picking a unit up from US, but am wondering what local MYS or SG users have to say about it... :)

I also guess that this unit will work w/MalSingMaps?

It will definitely work with the Malsingmaps but you will not be able to view Junction View and Lane Assist when u installed the MSM NT 2010.20 map. Only localised version will be able to. You can always installed the MSM ver 4.XX map, which comes without JCV and LA, but it is more up-to-date as it is updated every Monday and does not require unlock codes.

Thanks, but the reason I am buying this Garmin 1450 model is to get the Junction View and Lane Assist modes.

Is there any way I can get the JCV and LA to work w/this model, if I still buy it in the USA and bring it back here?

There is but it is considered illegal and not sanctioned by Garmin and we don't allow the discussion of how to go about it in this forum. Some people mod their set to view JCV and LA but there are risk involved. Your warranty will be void and if you do it wrongly you end up with an expensive paperweight. Even if you managed to, there is no guarantee that it will work properly as there are cases of the devices behaving erractically after modding. So, the choice is yours. Thanks.

I see. Are there any Garmin dealers in Malaysia (Penang)?

Alternatively, if I get a Garmin device in Singapore, will JCV and LA work in Malaysia w/MSM maps?

Sorry, I am not from Malaysia so I am unable to point you to the Garmin dealers there but I believe there are Garmin dealers in many part of the country including Penang. Yes, if you get the localised version of either 205, 255W, 765, 1250, 1350 and 1460, you are able to view JCV and LA if you install the MSM NT 2010.20 and/or Garmin CN map of My/Sg 2010.20 maps. Thanks.

GARMIN 1450T Australian version -> which map?

#7 Post by rexwrx » Sat Aug 28, 2010 11:41 am

hi,

i've got the garmin 1450T australian version, which map should I be downloading?

the 1460? or the regular ones?

also, my unit keeps crashing - had installed the SETUP.exe version of the Malsing Map. Is this right? :-. :-.

cheers,

I dunno what you have done that caused your device to crash, but, never mind, you can forget about that. Since yours is not a localised version, it is advisable not to install the MSM NT 2010.20 map since you can't view the Junction View. Download the regular version, MSM ver 4.39 from here. After downloading, just unzip, copy and paste the file (gmapsupp.img) to the Map folder of the root directory in either the main memory or micoSD card. If u dun have it, just create one. Very straightfoward as it does not even require any unlock codes.
