Hi All,

Guess it's time for me to upgrade my GPS. Mine's an aging 200W that is like errr.... 7 years old and dying on me.....

Anyway, I was thinking of the 2565LM and was hoping that some owners and gurus here can shed some light on it (I've completely lost touch on fiddling with the GPS). Sorry for the long list of questions.... here goes :

1. Can the old maps that I am using in my Nuvi 205W be used directly on the new 2565LM? i.e. either in memory or the SD card (yes, maps might be old and outdated.... but I'm too lazy....)

2. Does the 2565 also support the multi maps in its memory ( i.e. gmapoem, gmapsupp, gmapprom & gmapprom1.img ?)

3. Can the 2565 interface with mapsource? (i.e. I can just pick out map tiles for the area/state I want eg USA... instead of loading the entire country's map... and transfer to the USG connected 2565 ?)

4. Can I do route planning in mapsource and then trabsfer to the 2565?

Thanks for all your assistance.

Cheers

Hi dwoon,

Answers to your enquiry...
1. Sure can if the map is not locked. Do not worry if you are too lazy  , the set comes with new maps loaded and you can choose which one to use.

2. Unlimited number of map (the limit is your storage capacity) - can be stored under /map directory in your microSD card. You can even use any file name with *.img extension. No logger limited to gmapsupp, gmapprom & gmapprom1.img...

3. Yes of course in a way
4. Certainly

Note: if you are willing to spend a bit more, better buy Nuvi 2575R or equivalent. It comes with driving camera/recorder.

Thanks unclediy for the feedback. Will proceed to get it then. I don't find any purpose for the front camera though so won't be getting that option though it is relatively cheap.....

Just worried about the unit serial number thinggy with some of my existing maps (not local or malaysia)... might need some effort to re-read how to get it done.

Oh... for that matter of storage space, can we use 32GB or 64 GB class 10? My old 200W was limited to a 2GB SD card.

Not sure if 64GB will work on GPS, but confirm from 2-16GB can work. By the way using class 10 or class 4 will not have an difference on gps (other than transfer file speed).

I used a 4GB in my old 200 and had maps of almost every country in the world. Since the Nuvi 200 cannot display JCV, without JCV files, 4GB is more than adequate.

Class 4 is good enough for reading maps but if you have a 2575R and are using the GDR10 to record video, then a class 10 is imperative. Even the supplied class 6 is barely adequate and the recorded video is still a bit jerky. Class 4 is totally useless.
Lean not on your own understanding

Thanks all for the feedback. So it's 16Gb card then..... with the ability of having unlimited maps, as long as memory size can cater, it'll save me heaps of effort to merge maps and such.....ah... technology.

Eh... help.... I can't get the GPS to communicate to the PC. using the USB cable I normally use for my 200W, I pluuged in the 2565LM to the PC and there's no communication. The GPS will charge but I cannot access the memory.

Is there any setting I must enable? Tried on 2 cbles which I have and both don't work.

Thanks

OOOpppsss..... paiseh.... figured it out.... Its using a micro USB cable for the data rather than the mini USB. ](*,)

Bloody instructions booklet didn't even say anything......
