Hi,

As this unit I was not able to to select route preference? Coz my older model 765 allows that?

Nuvi 50LM specs does not support route pre-planning.

Not sure what you want.

Do you want Japanese text in place of English for routing instructions e.g. "turn left" in Hiragana instead of English?

Or do you want to input Japanese POI and road names in Hiragana or Katakana?

If the latter, even if your selected text is English, you can still input Hiragana or Katakana. I have done it so I am sure.

I regret buying the 40LM (same as 50LM) as Garmin has crippled them - can't add maps onto the SD card!

Then you will need a map with Japanese as the text language instead of English. I used a Japanese map with Japanese text in Japan with my N1460 and I could search and input Japanese (Hiragana and Katakana).
