GPSmap 276c

#1 Post by fahroe » Tue Sep 11, 2007 3:03 pm

Hi all,

Fahroe here. Requesting information on the GPSMap 276C, on how to check the data card status and disk space availability. I've been looking in the manuals, but none available. Google could not help much.

Any idea?

Thanks in advanced.

Fahroe

I have a 256mb garmin datacard for my 276c and the only way I can tell how much memory I have left is by looking at what I am loading into my datacard thru mapsource.

e.g. I have compiled malsingmaps plus some pacific bluechart maps plus some tide tables and a few other maps which add up to about 70mb as reported by mapsource which means that I have used 70mb out of my 256mb card. I make this assumption coz the gpsmap 276c does not save anything into the datacard. All waypoints, routes and tracks are saved into the main memory of the gps unit and not on your datacard.

Hi there,

Thanks for the info. I was doing that, but as you said, it is just an assumption.

So, how do we use the data card then? If the unit is not using it?

THanks again.

there is no way of using the card other than to store garmin based maps.

however if you really need to have direct access to the memory card, then i suppose you can order a memory card reader which is sold by garmin on their website.

Huh, ordering a card reader from Garmin? Unless it's a special memory card with a card reader available only from Garmin, why would u want to pay more by ordering from their website. Card reader is easily available and very cheap too.

Bro Redstorm, it IS a special memory card. Garmin called it data card. Size is different from da normal memory cards.

Hmm.. yeah, thoght so. This card is not the normal card, so don't think I can use the ordinary card reader.

Thanks.

:welcome: to malsingmaps bro mr_carpenter where all Garmin are discussed.

GPS accuracy is a complex topic involving a variety of technical factors that effect it ie.. environmental conditions, signal strength, satellites position, type of processing, horizontal vs vertical accuracy etc..

You can do somethings to improve accuracy but there is a limit for commercial units vs military units.

Spend time in our wiki for basics of GPS hardware and its applications. Graduate from there to our General Section.

See link below for more information on how to improve accuracy :
