Thanks for the reply

I contacted my dealer and Garmin. Unfortunately its not covered by warranty and they have a 'fixed price' repair - in which they essentially discard my unit and send me a new one.

The cost? Very close to the cost of unit in the first place!!

bro 660bxg, sad to hear of your unit issue  Best you can do is to look for one in the used market and use current one as spare. Hard to find the LCD spare unless you know the manufacturer. Maybe you can open up and post the picture and part number information here :-?

They apply same policy as Lappies, TV, MP3, MP4 players etc..... LCD the most expensive part of the module ... dead pixels they might consider but crack ... that is questionable ... unless it can be proven likewise .. which is difficult ...

I tried it in my friend's PC, running on Window XP platform, the webupdater detects it as E:\Garmin\ and it states no updates for it. I was brought to the next step of updating the Audio and Text language, I was able to have the audio and Text updated to a higher version. But now, what's puzzling is why the fireware is not updated... In this case, is the set still faulty? :-?

I don't think your set is faulty as there are other model of Nuvi that is not support with firmware update. For example the Nuvi 310 China version. Check your unit ID with Garmin to see if this true....cheers!

Best option then is "return to sender" and if doubted or disputed by Seller, suggest he upgrade it there & then before you leave his premise otherwise, complete exchange and seller sort it out with Garmin himself at his own time and expense, shouldn't be on yours.

Bro Cruiser, in this part of world, return to sender is not that easy. Once you pay for your purchase, you are on your own to fight the war. The standard of customer service is not what the western countries practiced. Their (western) exchange policy is "no question asked",whereas over here, at least few hundred if not thousand questions will be asked to deter you for exchange or get a refund. :fire:
