The Nuvi 200 - Part 3

#1 Post by zahren_1 » Mon Dec 03, 2007 11:42 pm

 ....need help....just inherited a GPS NUVI 200...

Have 2 problems....

1) The map for TH is within the system and not on the SD....
2) Tried inserting an SD but the system does not read....? The only way for the system to work is for the map to be in the system.

Before you start doing anything, you should read the instructions and refer to the wikipedia for newbies at

Create "garmin" folder in SD card, then copy gmapsupp.img into /garmin. Your nuvi will read both gmapsupp.img maps...

Yes like wat unclediy said, create a folder in your SD card called garmin and put the gmapsupp.img into that folder. Alternatively, if you wish to have POIs like speedtrap or trafficcam then create a folder called POI and throw all those POI files there. Note: Your POI folder must be inside the Garmin folder meaning it must be something like this X:\Garmin\POI supposedly X is the drive to your SD Card.

Please read here for more info. Whatever we have said here can be found in Wiki so you should at least make some effort in reading up to understand more about your device.

Removing Voice Files from Nuvi 200

#6 Post by zerko » Fri Dec 21, 2007 1:10 pm

From the list of voice files in the 200 there are many that I don't use.
Can I ? :
1 Delete these Voice Files inside the 200 ? (Physically I know it can be done via connection to a PC and using Explorer to delete but will it cause any problem to the main Garmin program after I delete it ?
2 Other than those Voice available through Garmin Webupdater, is there anywhere else I can get Voice Files ? I would be fun to use Singapore/Malaysia Hokkien on the 200. (Anyone who has it pls let me know)
Thanks.

before deleting anything from the nuvi, why don't you back up the entire contents first, then if there's any problem after deleting, you can always restore it back. better be safe than sorry mate!

1. I believe it's safe to delete unwanted voice files (*.VPM) but adhering to Aceedburn's advice before doing so is a good idea.

2. If you fancy editing your voice files (non-TTS only), this tip might come in handy: viewtopic.php?p=40623#p40623

Yep.. I have done a backup of the entire contents (incl hidden files) from day one. But I just want to check if anyone has done it without any problems before trying. Too many files which I will never use... moreover with the built-in US maps I have only around 40 MB space left. I was thinking of freeing more space up.
Thanks.

I rather not edit but add complete Voice Files. I remember in the "old" forum there was a post on using "Singapore/Malaysia Hokkien", something like "Kia Salah Leow.." for recalculating (that will be fun to use), but don't know what happened to it.
