How to install other maps in SD card

#1 Post by aces » Mon Oct 22, 2007 10:09 pm

I have a Nuvi 370. I installed the All-in-one My-Sin map into my SD card on a folder /garmin. It works fine.

Next, I searched and tried to install other maps from mapcenter2.
Then, I found a Western Aust. & Perth map with an installer and proceed to do the following:-
a) Opened the installer on my PC and the maps loaded into Mapsource on my PC
b) Then, I selected the WA & Perth maps using the map tool.
c) Next, I used the Send to Device tool, but I sent it to my SD card instead of Nuvi internal memory.
d) When I turn on my Nuvi, only the WA & Perth maps were available.
e) The My-Sin maps were not available.
f) I checked the SD card and found the following *.img files in the /garmin directory.
- 60006666.img
- 60016666.img
- 60026666.img
- 61101235.img
- gmapsupp.img (it seems that the gmapsupp.img file of My-Sin was overwritten)

1. Could someone help explain why I could not find My-Sin maps on the Nuvi ?
2. Is it because only one set of map could be stored on one SD card ?
3. Does that mean I have to get separate SD cards for each map ?
4. Is there any way to store My-Sin and other maps together on one SD card ?
5. I suspect I may have to use M3 to combine the maps but not sure how to do it ?

yes... you have over written the mysing gmapsupp file on your sd card with the latest wa & perth gmapsupp file. I suggest you copy the mysing gmapsupp to the nuvi internal memory and the foreign gmapsupp to the sd card. you may combine the maps into one but the combine file may become too large and slow down the loading time... according to some seniors... please read viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2005

You over-ridden your My-Sin map with the Aussie map

2. Is it because only one set of map could be stored on one SD card ?
Only 1 mapset can be stored in SD/garmin directory unless you combine them. A second mapset can reside in main memory. If you want more, you will have to use a utility to combine maps. Alternatively you can have separate SD cards. Choice is yours

3. Does that mean I have to get separate SD cards for each map ?
Not necessary. I have a 1G card and have maps of USA, My-Sin, Thailand, Borneo, HK, Philippines, etc... stored in separate directories. I transfer the respective country GMAPSUPP.IMG to /Garmin when I visit respective country. Do note that you will need access of a PC to transfer maps to / garmin directory.

4. Is there any way to store My-Sin and other maps together on one SD card ?
See suggestion in paragraph 3

5. I suspect I may have to use M3 to combine the maps but not sure how to do it
?Please read respective article in MalsingsMap Wiki section

if you happen to have a PDA handy (WM5 or WM6 or even "WM2003" verions..), you can easily do the moving of files around on the go.

I would suggest setting up different directories for each common countries that you visit, and instead of moving the files (and risk overwritting them), you do a copy and paste.

of course, if no PDA around, then got ta use card-reader/PC/Laptop method to copy them around :)
