For First-Time Visitors (The FAQ of all FAQs!) UPDATED 24/7
Hi,
You would be reading this page if you have in hand a Garmin GPS, Mapking software a smartphone installed with Garmin XT software. If you are still choosing, then you may want to browse to other parts of the forum for advice on GPS selection.
So you have a Garmin GPS:
I see 2 maps! MSM NT 2009.5 and CGPSMAPPER 3.05 Beta. Which one should I choose?
We would recommend MSM NT 2009.5 as the map of choice. It is a map compiled by Garmin engineers in Taiwan using native compilers and has additional features which the cgpsmapper version does not have. Essentially it is a map compiled by the people who makes the hardware it is intended for.
Our alliance with Garmin can be read here http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/s ... B839CACEE5
MSM NT 2009.X is released quarterly by Garmin and hosted by both Garmin website and our website.
Cgpsmapper 3.05 Beta is used by MSM as the testbed for future MSM NT 2009.X releases. It is compiled using third party compiler. Apart from being larger in file size, it does not have the additional features which the MSM NT 2009.X has : Lane Info, Exit Info, Junction View, Postal Code search etc etc.
Cgpsmapper 3.0X Beta is released monthly and as such is slightly ahead in terms of map coverage vs MSM NT. This version can be downloaded here viewtopic.php?p=157176#p157176
Unless the extra coverage is critical to you, you would still be advised to opt for MSM NT2009.X for its stability, extra features, better routing algorithm. Etc.
I want MSM NT 2009.5! But it comes in 2 flavours!Which one??
Yes. There are 2 different versions of the MSM NT map catering for 2 different sets of Garmin owners.
I purchased my Garmin from authorised dealers in Malaysia / Singapore
These units are known as "MY/SG SKU's" i.e. localised units developed specifically for the Malaysian / Singapore market.
And they would be the Nuvi's 255W, 760 and 765. A quick way to know your unit is the MYSg SKUs is that the box will state " Dual Maps Preloaded" and one of it is Malsingmaps.
You would go to http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/s ... MapUpdate/ to download MSM NT 2009.5 for these units.
I have Garmin unit purchased from other parts of the world (US, UK, Europe, Australia etc), or I purchased such a unit brought in by a local shop from these markets
These would be mostly everything under the sun made by Garmin which supports the "NT" maps. They would be 60CS, 60CSx, Vista HCx, 76CSx, Colorado series, Zumo series, Oregon series and more.
Garmin also compiles maps for these units and you can download the map here :
viewtopic.php?p=153923#p153923
I have Mapking ..
Then you can go here : viewtopic.php?p=99697#p99697
If you come to this website - these are essentially the url's you need to know!
Cheers!

The difference between MSM NT Map and the plain vanilla cgpsmapper MSM 3.0x Beta
We get asked this question a lot, so here are some answers in pictures.
Some of the differences between the two maps available for download here. In sum, the MSM NT displays more information compared to the MSM 3.0x Beta.

Re: For First-Time Visitors (The FAQ of all FAQs!) UPDATED 24/7
The NT 2009.5 map downloaded from MSM is 12.15 MB. The version available from garmin map update site is more than 100 MB. What is the difference?

The map from "MSM NT 2009.5 General Release Download (All units)" is the same as the version available from garmin map update site. Only short of the JCV files, hence the size different.

Re: For First-Time Visitors (The FAQ of all FAQs!) UPDATED 24/7
Hi there,
anyone can advise me.
I try to the file gmapprom1.img (from Garmin MSM NT2009.5), using my existing Mapsource v 6.13.7, but I can't open it The message say's that this file is not a valid Mapsource file and could not open it.
I have the old MSM Malaysia/Singapore v2.30a still in my Mapsource.
Or is it that the Garmin MSM NT2009.5 can only be transferred to my Nuvi 255W and not for viewing using Mapsource?
Pls advise, Thanks.
