Hi Welcome!
Would be good if you could start reading your Nuvi manual and also spend some time Here

Questions about Garmin 310

#3 Post by xcalibur » Mon Aug 13, 2007 6:29 pm

Hi, I just recently got my Garmin 310 and it has been a blast to use so far. One thing I am a little confused about is the way the device treats POIs. What constitutes a POI? Are the locations I save as favourites considered a POI? Also, how do I categorise my favourites into food, lodging, etc? Or can this only be done using the PC software and not directly from the receiver?

Another thing I am confused about is why the road names don't appear when I am traveling from one destination to another. It seems to appear only when I am not on a trip. Is there a way to tweak this? Thanks a lot guys!

Bro Xcalibur....
As you commented, the 310 is a wonderful toy... still is .. :)
Anything you save from your screen goes into Favourites and you have no way to segregate it into categories, unless you upload it into Mapsource (on your pc), save it as GPX format for downloading back into your Nuvi via POILoader software...

I don't quite understand you second question. On my Nuvi 310 (which is always in my BH's car  ), I do see road names appear near where my car is travelling...... is that not what you are looking for ?

Take care myy friend...
Look on the bright side ya? :muak:

I'm new too, haven't get myself a GPS device yet but soon...

few questions,

1) How does the downloaded map (eg. gmapsupp.img) look like in Garmin nuvi 310/610, Can see in 3D? or only 2D? Can somebody post some screenshots?

2) Where to download Alert.gpi and ERPgantries.gpi?

3) Interested to learn make my own map, does Garmin nuvi allow me to record tracks and mark POI during tracking?

Here are the screenshots for the 2D and 3D. You can choose either one in your Nuvi set.

As for those redlight, speedcam and ERP gantry alert files, read up the wiki and you should be able to find them there.

The Nuvi series don't having the tracking capability. Of course, if u come across any new POI not listed in the map, you can save it into your Favourite and later find out the coordinates and post them in the appropriate thread.

:tq: for the reply, the links in wiki cannot work. Think it link back to the old forum which does not exist now...
The wiki is there in the Forum main page. Right on top under "Links" u can see the words Malsingmaps Wiki. Click on it to access the page.

The wiki is there but the hyperlink in the relative page (e.g Downloading speedtrap files) are not working...

Oh, sorry, now I remember the guy who created these files has not transferred them to the new site. Looks like you gotta be patient and wait for the transfer.
