Hi all,

Last month i try the free australia map at perth. Quite decent for a free map. Just that i was maraget river, some of the location not accurate. How come my garmin 205 at certain area can't get any signal? Is it my set problem? I planning to upgrade my set. Any recommendation? 255w? 205w? My budget is less than 200.

Which Oz map are you referring to? Bro Jmleng, Bro KC, T4A or OSM? Bro Jmleng and Bro KC are members of this

Hope somene can advise me about using the search (where to) using the above two maps.

I have managed to get either of the above maps to work on my SD card.
I have turned on simulation mode and manually directed myself to Melbourne and set my new location there.
When i go into the map, i can see my car icon is located in Melb.
Now when i try to use the "where to" function (say search for Tudor St) , it can find the Street but then when i tap into it , it says location not found. And cannot bring the listing for the street. So i can't do any routing.
So i'm not sure how i can use the routing if it can't find my destination.

btw, i'm using Nuvi 255w.

Am i doing this the wrong way?

Not all maps can use the address search. Maybe you should be using "Spell Name" instead.

Hi Red Rooster, I am also using a Nuvi 255w and am expericing the same problem as you.
I tried "Spell Name"...but that doesnt work either.
Looks like I might have to rent a map from garmin distributor at Ubi Ave 1.
Do let me know if you found a solution !

Anyone knows where I can get the Garmin map for there?

I'm using the Garmin nuvi 880.

If you are talking about the original Garmin map of Australia, then it is not free and you can't download it from anywhere. Even if you managed to copy it from someone, you won't be able to use it on your device because it is protected by unlock codes either in your main memory or SD card. However, you can look for open source map for your Garmin from http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php . Thank you.

Hello guys,

I'm new here and just purchased nuvi 255w yesterday.

I tried my best to read through the FAQ's and the rest of this thread, but i still don't quite get it.

I have downloaded Melbourne map from mapcenter but it is year 2006.

Anyone has a more updated map?

Also, how do i install it on my garmin? do i just copy and paste the file into an SD card and slot it in and select it using my garmin?

I am travelling to Perth and Southwest area (Albany leg) nxt month and would like to get a map that has auto-routing.

I am using Nuvi 1350 with Singapore and Malaysia map loaded.

I am totally hopeless with all these technical stuff.

Can any kind souls pls walk me through or guide me step by step?

I am planning on a free and easy trip to Australia.
My plan is to drive and maybe B&B.

I have a Garmin nuvi 1350 local set.
I managed to get two files (for Australia and NZ) from the sites. They are gmapsupp.img and gmapprom.img.

My question is how to use the 2 files to add to my Garmin set or maybe SD card?
