7-11 POIs

#1 Post by wchoong » Thu Oct 14, 2010 5:23 pm

Hi to who ever reading this topic.

I have the whole database of addresses and contact for 7-11 stores in malaysia. Every one of them.
Even have their "store name" for each address. unlike some POI on the map which are marked "7-11" without clear indication.
I have contacted adilothman a couple of times, but unfortunately we couldn't set a time to meet.

Was wondering if any1 intersted to help me plot this.
In return, I'll just need the database to be transfered to Map Google.

let me know. Thanks

Cheers,

Hi wchoong, do you have the coordinates of all these 7-11s?

unfortunately i do not have them.
That makes the whole task a whole lot harder
if i have the coordinates, it would be much easier.

I only have the store address & contacts

currently 1174 stores operating throughout malaysia

Indeed that would be an arduous task, especially for those 7-11s that are not in the map. For those that are already in the map we can fix the issue of incomplete names (should be 7-11 XXX), address and phone numbers. Currently in Selangor, WP Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Kedah, Perlis, Penang and Perak there are a total of 668 7-11s.

118 of them do not have the complete names appended to them. Just 7-11.

378 of them do not have an address.

Majority of them do not have phone numbers.

If you are willing to work on the current crop of 668 7-11s we have in the map to ensure their names, address and phone numbers are complete then I will export the information (with their coordinates) for you to put into Google Map.

Naturally you will be given access to our source map files to complete this. This requires you to become a mapper. If you're going to rely on our mappers then most likely this will take some time. What say you? Will you be up to the task?

Are you in the 7-11 management? I had raised about this before. Business owners should make it a point to record the coordinates of all their business premises that they want to be mapped and easily found by the public. Coordinates data are useful for their asset management in the first place. They are just not solely for the mappers. With coordinates the 7-11 stores can be easily fitted into the map. Just with addresses, we will not know where to fix it on the street.

i don't work for 7-11 , but I work with them.
Trust me , they don't have the "resources" to plot their own shops.
anyway, this is the first stage for 7-11 convenience store ..
if this is successfully plotted, later will include wifi hotspots by starbucks, kenny rogers, wendys, krispy kreme .... and more to come for wifi hot spots..

:)

True. Hopefully in the future all Business POIs must be claimed by their respective owners or their delegated staffs. That way only their mappers can make changes to these 'owned' POIs.

Wchoong, holler if you get stuck - I'm on Gtalk 24/7 and Skype most of the time. It might look difficult with all the setting up of svn and downloading the map tiles but once done (and you only need to do this once), its all a smooth ride after that.
