Connect your device to your PC and look for the GPX file. This is the file where all your favourties are stored. Backup a copy of it.nojoke wrote:Is there any way to backup the "Favourite" in the Garmin nuvi 1350 ?

Re: Loading MSM into NUVI Part 5
Hi.
I am also relatively new to GPSs but having read through much of the Part 5 and most of Part 4 thread, am glad to see the amount of resource and help that goes into this.
I had done some quick online shopping in Singapore for Garmin units and compared them to ones in the US. I will be making a trip back to the US and am interested in purchasing a modern and technologically savvy Garmin GPS. Though I understand the limitations of not purchasing a localized unit but am glad to see Singapore and Malaysia maps can be transferred to a US Garmin unit.
My question is what unit would the experienced members recommend me to get that allows me to utilize the most sophisticated features of the Garmin unit (purchased in the US) and brought back over to Singapore. I know of Traffic, Lane Assist, Junction, etc. I know Bluetooth and the maps will transfer over but is it a waste of money getting an updated Garmin like a nuvi 1450LMT (love the 5 inch screen), 285WT (ok with the 4.3 inch screen), 265WT knowing thatt Junction, Lane Assist won't work in Singapore? Am I wrong from what I read on the threads or if I value the functions that I should forego the US savings and buy the localized unit?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Loading MSM into NUVI Part 5

You have posed a lot of questions and I am not sure I can answer them all to your satisfaction. I shall try anyway.
Think of the GPSr as a DVD player. As long as it has the capabilities to do certain things, it will work anywhere. As with the DVD player, it is not of much use without the DVDs (the software or maps in the case of GPSrs) . The situation is somewhat similar with the DVD players of a few years back when DVD players were hard-coded with the zone they were sold in and only DVDs from the same zone could be played. That strategy did not work for long so now all players can play DVDs from all zones. If you buy a GPSr from USA, it is similar to buying a DVD player from zone 1 and only zone 1 software (maps) can function with all the features the hardware is capable of. All legally acquired maps (with unlock codes or intentionally not locked at all), will function in any Garmin GPSr from any zone except for certain features like LA and JCV. Unlike DVDs of the wrong zone that totally cannot work when there is a mismatch of 'zones' between the hardware and software, in the case of the GPS, only some features will not work. Some people may not mind that e.g. not getting LA or JCV when the USA models are cheaper but if you pay extra for a traffic capable model (those with a suffix T) from USA then find that it does not function in Malaysia or that you have to pay additional to get it to work in Singapore, you may have wasted some money so whatever savings you think you managed to get by buying from USA, may not be so much any more.
As a mapper, I would like to see you enjoy ALL the features we code into our maps but that means you have to buy a localized unit. I am not a GPS seller nor connected to any local distributor but I just do not like to see the mappers' efforts being wasted when not fully enjoyed because some people decide to buy non-localized units on account that they are a bit cheaper. Please remember that mappers are not paid for their efforts but derive satisfaction from satisfying users. The fact that you are posting your questions at MSM, can I presume that you like to encourage the mappers at MSM too?
Your question is too general to answer meaningfully but if you have decided for example that you will only buy a localized unit, then there will be plenty of brothers who can tell you which model is the 'best bang for the buck'.

Hi Jason,
Thanks for your feedback. I completely understand the DVD lock system even though it is a bit obsolete and we live in a global world. Can I ask you and the other members what you would suggest - trying to get a really good Garmin GPS (heard weird things about Shinco, Packard Bell and Tibo) with all good features - lane assist, junction view, bluetooth, traffic, etc and bigger screen - minimum 4.3 inches.
Any recommended dealers and decent prices are appreciated - only saw a quote from Challenger for 1460 at S$399 and nuvi 255W (no traffic or bluetooth) at S$249.
Thanks again.

If you are in Singapore, go to Perfect Watch@SLS #01-36 and look for Mr Yan. Look at the various models and choose one what suits your budget and lifestyle. It may not necessarily be the most expensive.

Dear Bro Liual,
I suggest you browse our Vendors' Corner and take your pick: http://www.malsingmaps.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=22
You should ask for a quotation update.
I am using a 1460 and have bought a 1350 for a friend. Both have the latest features. Before that the favourite was 255. I suggest you check out 1350 or 1460.

Re: Loading MSM into NUVI Part 5
Hi all,
I've just got a local unit of 1350 and trying to upload latest maps into the unit. I've read through some of the topics here, but still a bit confused.
The unit has the following maps installed:
- Malsingmaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2010.20
- City Navigator Singapore/Malaysia NT 2010.30
I've gone to Garmin Singapore website and downloaded the latest map:
- Malsingmaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT2010.40
Q1: Is this map going to replace the Malsingmaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT 2010.20?
I've also downloaded the V5.05 map.
Q2: Is this an additional map on top of the 2 mentioned above?
Q3: Understand that this is a latest map. But found that the file size is only about 40MB. Does it contains JV?
Q4: Shall I put this map under the \map folder?
Q5: Shall I activate all the 3 maps at the same time?
Q6: If I also install another map from the other site, then can I have all the 4 maps activated to cover the maximum roads and POIs?
Thanks
