Quick and easy answer?

1. Buy a sd card
2. Create a directory in the sd card called Garmin
3. Go to here viewtopic.php?p=195657#p195657 to download the latest map.. * Please read the whole post and make sure you understand what to do. It's really simple.
4. Put the sd card into your device.
5. Start up the device. Go to map selection. Make sure the MSM map is ticked and the rest of the maps are unticked.
6. Back to front page of the device, select a destination and press "Go"...

That's it.

I own a Garmin Nuvi 1350 SKU unit, purchased from All Bright Technology. When I tried to update the map from garmin's website, it says my unit is not eligible for the free map update.

Fine. So now i'm using the msm nt v5.36 map

Only question, is there an alternative way to install the map, without the need of a sd card?

Cheers

Hi wzseow,

You may put the map file in main memory of your GPS /map folder which you need to create it in Windows Explorer. Product.JCV file cannot be use if you install in this directory.

* Word of cautions - You might damage your GPSr if your downloaded file corrupted during download process and place it in main memory. *

Hi,

Please help to advise me on..

1) what is the difference between v5.36 map and MSM NT 2011.20 map.
2) I understand that we need a code to unlock MSM NT 2011.20 map. Does this mean that MSM NT 2011.20 map is much better than V5.36 map?
3) I think that my map in my GSP is MSM NT 2009 map. How do I update this map to MSM NT 2011.20 map?

Thanks.

The main difference is age. v5.36 is just a few says old but MSM NT 2011.20 was created using data from v5.xx almost a year ago. v5.36 will contain all the changes, additions and corrections made in the last 1 year.
2) I understand that we need a code to unlock MSM NT 2011.20 map. Does this mean that MSM NT 2011.20 map is much better than V5.36 map?
MSM NT 2011.20 was compiled by Garmin and they as a practice do not give out free maps like we do but they sell them so they need to protect their property by locking them. Because the map is locked, you need an unlocked code. Does your car become better or increase in value when you lock it compared to when it is not locked?
3) I think that my map in my GSP is MSM NT 2009 map. How do I update this map to MSM NT 2011.20 map?
Because of what I explained in answer to your earlier 2 questions, I will be doing you a disservice if I teach you how to update your map to MSM NT 2011.20 which is already superceded by MSM NT 2011.30. Rather than wrestle with unlock codes, I prefer to recommend that you update with the latest MSM NT v5.36 by downloading it from HERE. After downloading, you have to unzip the downloaded file and then copy the resultant map gmapsupp.img to use in your GPS. As you have not disclosed what model is your GPS, I can only recommend a general method that will work for all models. First of all you have to buy a micro SD card which will cost you less than S$10 for 2GB which will be more than sufficient. If you are not willing to spend this small amount, you can take a risk of damaging your GPS so it cannot be started, by copying the map into the internal memory. Create in the SD card a folder named \Garmin and copy the gmapsupp.img into this folder. When you switch on your GPS, touch Tools/Settings/Maps or Mymaps/Map Info (in case your GPS has only Maps and not Mymaps) and uncheck all other maps except MSM NT v5.36. Maps of the same geographical area cannot be mixed as they will interfere with each other and your routing will result in you going to Holland.

Thanks.

using 2565 without sd card mean cannot activate JCV?

b) Using unit main memory
Option 1
- In the main memory root, create a folder called Map
- Extract gmapsupp.img from the zip file & copy to the Map folder
- You can rename the gmapsupp.img to any other name such as msm.img or mymsm123.img .. etc
- Junction view will not work from this folder, so you can skip the step of copying product.jcv
