Any map will be overwritten if you attempt to install another map with the same file name (e.g. gmapsupp) in the same location. However, if those maps, especially the MFM 2012.10 with a file name as gmapsupp.img, are in the internal memory and you attempt to install the MSM 5.52 with a similar file name in the SD card, there is no chance of it being overwritten as they are stored in the different locations. It will overwrite the MFM 2010.10 map if you attempt to save the MSM 5.52 in the same location as the former.

If you update your MSM NT 2012.xx and/or Garmin CN 2012.xx map from the Garmin website, your MSM 5.53 map will not be overwritten as they have different file names. MSM NT 2012.xx - gmapprom1.img, Garmin CN - gmapprom.img and MSM 5.53 - gmapsupp.img. Although the MFM 2012.xx map shares the same file name as the MSM 5.53 i.e. gmapsupp.img, it will not overwrite each other as they are store in different location. To be sure and for insurance, you can remove your microSD card containing your MSM 5.xx map whenever you update your MFM 2012.xx map in your internal memory. Thank you.

If you have more than one map, it doesn't mean it will help you in your nagivation by checking on all of them. Far from it. Always check on only one map and uncheck on the rest otherwise you can get conflicting information during navigation and might even ended up somewhere else other than your intended destination. Thank you.

Preloaded maps are loaded into MainMemory/system directory
This directory is hidden by default
You will need to twig windows to show the files

Once shown, there are several files of interest
gmapprom.img which contains preloaded Garmin NT map
gmapprom1.img which should be the preloaded Garmin-MSM NT map

Backup everything before attempting the upgrade
Delete the gmapprom1.img to create space.
