Dear Bro Kondo,

What you want is a GPS with AI (Artificial Intelligence) but that technology is not yet available. So the current GPS units that we have are dumb and cannot think (just like computers) and it is the user who must supply the brains for the time being.
bro my question is simple not complicate leh  , a gps can't differential which one is faster time and what is highway ](*,) how can we reply on this gps when travel in oversea, in malaysia we maybe know how to hit E2 and back to SG.

Bro Kondo, we are just a bunch of hobbyist who started with GPS hardware with no decent map and then taken to developing one of the best map of Singapore-Malaysia.

We had shared with you what the current available Garmin hardware can do and what it does not do. We are not here for an extended debate on what's right and what's wrong. It is not perfect but then which hardware is ? Why not bring it up to Garmin via the below mentioned link and share with us the respond

hello everyone who is using the (good old reliable) 255W -

one time I forgot to unplug my 255W when I go to my.garmin.com "my Dashboard" and I was surprised to see "system update" available. normally I always just click "go" when I see this kind of update but I was surprised enough to look for details - and may be a lucky thing I didn't just click "go", because I saw that the update is for:

Firmware Update for GTMxx Traffic Receiver
Firmware Update for GTMxx Traffic Receiver Type 3
Time Zone Map

has anyone updated their 255W with this? I guess the time zone map is no issue, but the 255W is not a "traffic" model, right, so why is the system trying to update a "traffic receiver" in it?

I know sometimes manufacturer include the same hardware in all models and just "disable" some features for the cheaper models, I suppose that means this is the case with the 255W? Does this update "unlock" the traffic features? :-)

most important question is, if I update this, does it cause problems :-P

Usually, localised sets do not need to update the software thru "My Dashboard". From what I know, "My Dashboard" is usually mean for foreign sets. So far, I have used it only for my Montana 650 when it prompted me to connect my set to update my software via My Dashboard. Having said that, the localised and foreign 255W does not have live traffic. So, please do not connect it and try to update the firmware. I do not know why this is the case. Please note that updating any firmware that is not mean for your set can brick you device and you can end up with an expensive paper weight.

Try changing another USB cable. Usually, the problem lies with some USB cables that are not able to connect properly.

yeah that's why I haven't tried it yet and came to the forums to ask! I prefer the 255W to the newer GPS models actually, so I want to keep using it for a LONG time.

thing is, "mydashboard" is supposed to be able to detect the unit properly etc. and present "exactly" the updates you need. so I'm wondering if this means that if the GTM35 receiver would actually work with the 255W.

If I had a spare 255W I would go ahead and try the update to see if it works... actually I do wish I had two 255Ws, since like I said I wish to keep using it for a long time!

I guess my original maps corrupted ... someone can share the file for me, thanks.
