Re: Can the garmin nuvi withstand the heat?
What about those embedded built-in GPS units? Or those LCD screens that play movies for children? Those are in the sun all the time too.

Well, is the egg crack open on the bonnet? Or the egg is left on the dash board in an enclosed car. How it is done is very important!

Re: Can the garmin nuvi withstand the heat?
On Weekends, my car is open to the sun.
I leave my Nuvi in the glove compartment before. I also left it in the armrest storage (between the driver seat and the passenger seat)....
As long as not directly exposed to the sun, should be fine. I leave my CDs in the glove compartment and no problems too..
However, I have to say my glove compartment got aircon vent one..
Drive out in the sun with your Nuvi mounted, giving you directions.. When you reach the destination, touch the antenna flap. You will notice it is quite warm... Imagine no Aircon and leave it there for 2 hours.. I am pretty sure something will fry.
In the shade should be OK.

If it is bulit for automotive, then i believe the garmin engineer would have though of the heat or the operating temperature in the various different environment in different countries, spring, summer, winter etc
My guess is that it will work fine.

I leave my Garmin iQue M5 (PDA) all the time in the glove compartment. So far nothing happen. It works fine & faster time to lock with the satellite when it warm...
Hope it will be ok in the future..

Re: Can the garmin nuvi withstand the heat?
Why must ask when it is stated in the manual... If they don't state, ppl sue and get compensation.. especially in the USA...:
http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/1458_Imp ... nSheet.pdf
I quote page 1 (ONE), bottom section :
Do not leave the unit exposed to a heat source or in a high temperature location, such as in the sun in an unattended vehicle on a hot day. To prevent damage, remove the unit from the vehicle or store it out of direct sunlight, such as in the glove box.

Re: Is TTS very useful
I'm doing that also. in singapore, I will turn it off but places like JB, I will on it.SilverBeauty wrote:As what Bro Redstorm mentions, it is a matter of personal perference. I now mute my Nuvi and rely on pure visual indications while in Singapore but when overseas and on unfamiliar places, rely on a combo of audio / visual directions.
This is especially so when you travel in small roads which are close to each other as the accuracy of the GPS tends to toggle between adjacent roads that faills within the accuracy tolerances.

Re: Nuvi and SDHC ?
Not sure which model of Nuvi you have. But if you refer to the firmware history of, for example, Nuvi 310, look under 3.10 to 3.20, you can clearly see that it says that it has added support for high capacity SD card. Suggest you check through the specific model that you have to see if it is applicable to your model.
